Weight Loss Over 40, Week 6
53Week 6 and Another Pound Gone
Total of 13 pounds now gone from my body. It is wonderful to put on jeans that were too tight a few weeks ago and they are loose now. The Insulin Resistance diet is working and even when I "cheat" it gets me back on track. I truely believe the small frequent meals/snacks are the secret key. Resetting your metabolism is important for weight loss. Eating something healthy every couple of hours helps keep the rate up and the loss of pounds continuing. Usually by this time in my diet cycles, I have stopped and or gained again. But so far, nothing like that has happened. I am truely feeling like this time it may work.
I know that most of this is on me. I still need to lower my stress levels and exercise daily. Work is dragging me down in the exercise department. When you don't leave work until late, then motivation to exercise is gone. I will have to set time aside for getting healthy. I have had a wonderful friend ask me to join her at the gym and another would like to be a walking buddy. I just have to stop "life" from getting in the way of my living.
I would like to see the weight loss increase. I will give it another couple of weeks and then decide if I need to talk to my Nurse Practitioner about Glucophage as my GI doc suggested when he diagnosed my Insulin Resistance. According to him, Glucophage would help my body utilize my insulin more eficiency and I would experience weight loss and keep it off. The problem for me is that I currently don't take any daily medications and I don't want to add any. I know myself too well and compliance with daily medications is a problem for me. I am definately a "do as I say not as I do" in the medication department. I don't react well to many medications: BP meds drop me too low and I can't function. Estrogen and BC pills give me a horrible headache and put me in the stroke risk category. So the thought of taking a med which will affect my internal functioning doesn't make me all warm and fuzzy inside. I still have time.
On the upside, I am still lossing weight, slowly but surely I am working my way to the goal of 100 pounds. This is only my initial goal. Once it is reached, there will still be more to go, but breaking it down into smaller goals makes it seem more attainable. It sounds so much better to say you are at 10% of your goal than at 5%. If you don't have much to lose, then set your goal in 25 pound increments. Reaching a goal is wonderful. Set them in ways you can reach.
Now, just a reminder. This is Breast Cancer awareness month. Have a mammogram, do self checks. Remember, men can also get breast cancer. Young and old can get it. My 90 year old Grandmother discovered a lump last year and it was cancerous, no prior history of breast cancer. She had a lumpectomy and is doing great, they got it all. I have a mammo every year, October is just a easy way to remember to have it done. I believe it took less than 10 minutes from beginning to end to have the mammo. We are digital in our town, so the pictures are very clear. The little bit of discomfort is well worth it so I can see my kids have kids. Breast Cancer is best treated early as are all cancers. Many of the mammo centers run specials in October so the cost will be decreased. Look into it.
Keep working toward your goals.
