Weight Watchers' Smart Ones
73Is Weight Watchers New and Improved?
For decades now, millions of people have turned to Weight Watchers for guidance in weight loss. Members would have to go to meetings, weigh-in in front of everyone and have to face their failed dieting efforts not alone, but quite publicly. Don't get me wrong, there are people who lost weight with Weight Watchers. Unfortunately, their numbers are few. It's not that their products weren't tasty but they just were not very exciting. Now, Jenny Craig and LA Weight Loss have entered the mainstream and it seems like Weight Watchers realized that these heavyweights just might squeeze them out.
In response to the pressure, Weight Watchers has come out with their new Smart Ones brand. Why is this genius? Well, for starters, WW has introduced the Points plan and these dinners come with the points values right there on the packaging! Another strength is that these frozen dinners and desserts are available just about anywhere. You have to actually go to Jenny Craig and LA Weight Loss for their products (at least in Canada), but Smart Ones are in the frozen foods section of your local supermarket.
BUT DO THEY TASTE GOOD???
Here's a review of some of the new selections!
Spicy Szechuan Style Vegetables and Chicken
Santa Fe Style Rice & Beans
Fettucini Alfredo
This entrée is great! It doesn't taste like a diet product at all. In fact, I think I would eat it regardless of whether I wanted to lose weight. It is creamy and the noodles are just right. There is just enough broccoli and it actually feels like a good amount of food. The only problem is that there are never any left at the grocery store. Oh well, that's the sign of a good product.

It is important to note that you DO NOT have to buy the food from weight watchers to be on their program. It is an option but you can eat whatever food you want as long as it falls into your points. I have found that most of the Smart Ones and Weight Watchers food is very good.
Weight Watchers is NOT a Diet, it is a healthy way of eating. This program is especially good for people that love fruits and veggies. I personally lost 30 lbs on this program and still eat the "Smart Ones" frozen dinners for lunch.
The Sesame Chicken, spaghetti and meat sauce, lasagna, and roast beef are all really good. I am not on a diet, I am just trying to eat healthier and it has been easy with the meal options.
The Santa Fe Style Rice & Beans was the very first one I tried cause I won't touch any frozen meals with meat so I was limited and I have to say I was soo impressed the flavour was awesome I absolutely loved it!
Having been a Weight Watcher life time member since 1991, I agree with Michelle - it's not a diet but a healthy way of eating. I really enjoy the Smart Ones frozen dinners for a change from the lunch time sandwiches. It's just too bad we can't get the selections they seem to have on the Smart Ones site here in Canada.
I like most of the Smart Ones dinners. One of my favorites is the Sante Fe Red Beans and Rice. I mix this after it's prepared with A bowl of shredded lettuce and salsa. Occasionally, I add fat free chips. This creates a taco salad. I could eat this every night.
First of all members do NOT! have to weigh in in front of others! Members weights are not told to anyone other than the member herself. They do Not say out loud who has gained weight. They Do however give out awards and incentives for any loses. But if the member asks if they not mention their loses, they won't even do that. The food is not a requirement, like it is on Jenny Craig and Slim Fast. There are no restrictions on what you eat at all. The only requirement is that you stay within the allowed number of points for the day, and that you make healthy choices. Lean protein is encouraged, along with dairy, vegetables, fruits, starches, (good) fats, and water. If you want to have hamburgers, fries, pizza, whatever, you can. Just as long as you count it in to your daily points. If you choose to blow all your points on a huge hamburger for instance you can! But you will soon realize that it would be better to have a small one instead. It is all about choices and learning to live in the real world. And yes that sometimes includes eating fast foods, etc. but with the knowledge you will learn at the Weight Watchers meetings you will not want to do it very often. It's just there if you want it. It is the most encouraged plan of all the doctors. The fee is nothing compared to plans like LA Weight Loss, Jenny Craig, and Nutri System. You only pay a small weekly fee and nothing else. The fee pays for your weigh in, and the meeting, but it also lets you go to as many meetings during the week for free, if you would like to sit it on some others. The food is really good, with some more so that others. It's all a personal choice, but you can be quite succesful on Weight Watchers, and never eat even one of their meals! The meals are an easy way to dine, but they are NOT A REQUIREMENT!!! Who ever posted all the incorrect information has clearly never gone to Weight Watchers! And yes, quite a large amount of people have gotten to their goals, and become Life Time Members. That is a secret to a healthy plan, anyone can lose weight, on almost any plan. The secret to the good ones, like Weight Watchers is to find one you can live with for the rest of your life. Not just to replace 2 meals every day with a bowl of cereal like the stupid Special K one. It might work for 2 weeks, but what happens when you can't choke down another bowl of it, no matter how good it tastes!?
