2008 Brings Even More Unusual Names to Hollywood

If there is one thing we know about celebrities, it's that they love to be different. And there is no better demonstration of this than in their choice of baby names. In the past, celebrities have gone to great lengths to find the perfect and unique name for their child. From Audio Science or Moxie CrimeFighter to Camera and Diva Muffin (Yes, these are actual names of celebrity children), there is no doubt that children in tinsel town are among the oddest named in the world.

And the trend continues.

The 21st century brought us baby names anywhere from earthly treats to heavenly wonders. And, if the recent 2008 births are any indication as to where baby names are headed, it looks like the weird and wacky names will continue for another year, at least.

Rock Stars or Film Legends

In 2007 we got Bowie (father is celebrity hair stylist Ric Pipino), Zeppelin (father is Korn front man Jonathon Davis) and even Everly Bear, named after the Everly Brothers (father is Red Hot Chili Peppers front man Anthony Kiedis). 2007 also brought us Jagger Song (parents are Brett Scallions and Abby Gennet).

In March 2008, Soleil Moon Frye welcomed Jagger Joseph Blue, while, in May, Jon Ron Rooney named his little arrival, Jagger Donovan. We can only wonder what Mick thinks of this recent trend.

In addition to the rock stars themed babies are some other on-screen legends that include Harlow Winter, named after Jean Harlow, and Rocky, Freddie Flintoff's little tyke, named after Sylvester Stallone's character. Another fan of the unusual, Stallone has named his children, Sage Moonblood, Seargeoh and Sistine. No jokes. 2008 also brought us Kal-El Joseph, Terri Vaughn's son, named after Superman's birth name. Sadly, this is not the first Kal-El; Nicolas Cage has a four year old son with the same name.

Food and Flowers

It all started with Bob Geldof and his daughter, Peaches. From there the food craze continued with Gwneth Paltrow and Chris Martin's daughter, Apple, and Courtney Cox and David Arquette's daughter, Coco. However, it didn't end there and celebrities moved onto to spices with Isaiah Washington's son Thyme.

Now we can add Sage to the list as well with Toni Collette's new arrival, Sage Florence, on January 9th.

But, it's not just herbs; it's also flowers.

Several different flowers have blossomed into children's names over the years including baby Bluebell (Geri Halliwell's daughter), Tiger Lily (Michael Hutchen's daughter), Angel Iris (Melanie Brown's daughter) Daisy Boo and Poppy Honey (Jamie Oliver's daughters), and Violet (Ben Affleck and Jennifer Gardner's daughter).

In 2008, Rain Pryor welcomed another flower child, little Lotus Marie on April 1st. Fred Savage also opted for an au natural name with his baby Lily Aerin, born May 3rd.

Furthermore, Rick Parfitt and Lyndsey Whitburn combined flowers to come up with Lily Rose, for their new little arrival.

Places

Victoria and David Beckham gave us Brooklyn; Jaci Velasquez and Nic Gonzales gave us Zealand; and Drea de Matteo and Shooter Jennings gave us Alabama.

Now we've moved on to South America.

2008 brought two little Rio's into the world so far. Rio Joseph (parents are Frank Grillo and Wendy Moniz) was born January 25th while Rio Atticus (father is Tom Dumont) was born June 18th.

The Skies

From Moon Unit (Frank Zappa's daughter) to Heavenly Rain (Brooke Burke and David Charvet's daughter) to Gaia Romilly (Emma Thompson's daughter)celebrities love naming their children after anything that has to do with the Heavens.

Orion Christopher, son to Chris Noth, came down into the world on January 18th 2008. This is just a week before Storm Likliter, son to Frank Litliter, floated down to earth. And we can't forget about baby Juno, the heavenly god of marriage, born May 7th to Will Champion.

With Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt rumoured to be naming their new twins Castor and Pollex after the twin constellation, there will be even more heavenly bodies among the celebrity stars.

Other noted birth names this year include Bautisa, Paloma, Trig Paxson Van and Major. With celebrity couples Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale and Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban expecting mid summer, we could have even more weird and wacky baby names to look forward to!

The hollywood celebrities are enjoying on giving unusual names to their children. I'm so glad they are not my parents. I hope the kids enjoy it when they grow up. =)
