Be wary of voting the ticket, and get back into education!

Ok, in my last blog, I wrote about an elected official at the naitonal level that had some questionable politics. Which lead me to more questions... quiestions like, once this guy's constituents kno w what he proposed, will he be voted out of office when his term is up?

Did the representative have this idea as part of his election platform and were his constiutents aware of it?

These questions led me to other observations... like... do many people know what eugenics anymore and do they care?

With our educational system bent more on making our kids feel good rather than making them competent thinking individuals, I am curious and sad.

Because without a good understanding of your rights and responsibilities as a citizen, you have no way of knowing when those rights are being taken from you. You just presume, based on your elementary base of knowledge that the status quo remains status quo.

Without a good understanding of civics, how will you know who to vote for? And without the basic ability to critrically analyze what you see hear and read, how will you know if the party platform you're voting for is actually what you want?

I mean, if we take a walk through history, we discover that Lincoln was a member of the Republican party, and that would make the Republicans responsible for ending slavery in America. And if we leap ahead a hundred or so years, we see that the Democrats were/are responsible for our involvement in oil rich countries like Iraq due to the Carter Doctrine!(http://www.answers.com/topic/carter-doctrine)

In short, the Carter Doctrine states that we need to protect our access to oil and if we need to go and fight to protect that access, so be it. So stop fussing at/about the Republicans! We need to stay educated on the issues, and not be distratctred by partisan politics and the mind set of " I don't like you so I'll vote for the other guy". I'm not a fan of most of the political parties in the U.S. right now, and yes there are more than two! For the record, we have Democrats, Republicans, Libertarians, the Green party, and according to this website:(http://www.politics1.com/parties.htm) there are about twenty somthing more odd parties... (see, education is useful1)

Back to our excursion through history... if we hop back sixty or seventy years, we see that another nation, torn by war, suffering from crazy inflation elected a leader that promised prosperity and a bright future. That leader promptly shut down what was once a democratic republic and set up a dictatorship! The majority of people were happy, the leader promised and created jobs, he also started a new nationalism, and people embraced it, and when this leader instigated a new war, the people said, "go ahead!" Then things got weird, really weird!

The country? Germany. the leader... Adolph Hitler. Get back to education people!
