What, No Ketchup?

Ketchup, Anyone?

Everybody puts ketchup on their hot dogs, on their hamburgers, on their cheeseburgers, etc. So, why is ketchup, then, not offered at the sub-sandwich fast food restaurants such as Subway, Firehouse, Robin Hood, and others? What is it about a sub-sandwich that makes you NOT want to put ketchup on it? Beats me. That has puzzled me ever since I was one day in the Subway restaurant, and I asked for ketchup to put on my sub. Their answer was that ketchup was a condiment that they did not offer. They have plenty of mustard, though. They have plenty of mayonnaise. They even have pickles, and jalapeƱos (isn't that a Mexican thing?). The Firehouse has plenty of hot sauces. But I didn't see ketchup when I went there, either. I thought ketchup was a good ole American condiment.

I'll have you know, that there is a sub place close to the place where I work. It is called, Robin Hood, and, they have good subs. I sometimes eat there. Again, once I went there and asked for ketchup to put on my sub, and they said that they did not have any. They had plenty of Mustard, Mayonnaise, and other stuff; they even had oil and vinegar, but no ketchup. So I mentioned it to the lady that was making the subs. I said, "You know, I'd like to put some ketchup on my sub and I wonder why it is not offered." The next time I went in there, there was a tub full of little ketchup packets/squeezies. Now, they are smart. They know how to please the client, the customer. Today I used the little ketchup packets for the first time when I went there. Not bad, I say, a sub with a little bit of ketchup. You ought to try it sometime!

Good observation, and good hub. Don't get me started on the foibles of the food industry!

Hey I've never been a ketchup eater but am all for freedom of choice. I am still peeved that coffee drinkers get unlimited refills at the restaurant while quirky tea drinkers like myself get eyerolls if we request a refill.

Great comments, maricarbo. I usually bring my subs home as there is a Subway on my block, so I never thought about the 'ketchup issue' before. Thinking more on this topic, I would definitely have a ketchup issue if I stayed put to eat in the fast food joint, because I do usually put ketchup on the subs I bring home.

By the way, there is a 'Ketchup Recipe Toolbar' adsense ad on this hub! *thumbsup* I am going now to click it and see what that's about! Imagine...ketchup searches through the toolbar...how great will that be??

Nice hub! I agree, I think they should have ketchup there also. Luckily, I normally eat mine at home, so I put my own ketchup on there. LOL
