Razor Bumps, also known as pseudofolliculitis barbae is a body inflammatory reaction that appears when people with tightly curly hair shave. The hair recently shaved, briefly surfaces from the skin and then curls back into it, becoming ingrown. This causes red bumps and skin irritation and many men have complained of the pain it can cause.

Razor bumps is common to black people, due to the nature of their hair (studies have shown that actually, 10-80% of adult black men have razor bumps), but it can also appear on people with different skin color, since it has to do more with the type of hair. Men who suffer form this condition tend to shave a lot, and with an improper shaving technique. Often using methods that cut the hair below the surface, like shaving against the grain, plucking hair with tweezers, using double and triple razors, or the use of electrolysis.

Although PBF is not a serious medical condition, it sometimes can lead to cosmetic disfigurement. This is a condition that involves papules, and these papules can lead to scarring, postinflammatory hyperpigmentation, secondary infection, and keloid formation. However this can be avoided by first getting to know your skin, and with proper treatments. If you suffer from razor bumps or pbf, get to learn some good shaving habits for your type of skin. It may not be the "perfect look" you're going after, butit will be much better for your skin health.
