What Do Soft Drinks & Car Seats Have In Common?
65
Caution Before You Drink!
When was the last time you had a Mountain Dew soft drink? I bet you enjoyed every bit of it, right?
What you might not enjoy now though, is knowing that Mountain Dew is the most toxic soft drink on the market.
Why? Because it contains bromine as do most lemon tasting soft drinks.
How is bromine toxicity dangerous to your health?
Because, bromines disrupt the endocrine system and compete with the same receptors that are used to capture iodine which your thyroid needs for optimum health.
The more bromine you expose your body to, the less it will hold on to the iodine that it needs.
Now iodine is not used only by the thyroid.
You can ding bromine in:
- pesticide
- plastics
- bakery goods
- soft drinks (including Mountain Dew, Gatorade, Sun Drop, Squirt, Fresca and other citrus-flavored sodas),
- medications such as Atrovent Inhaler, Atrovent Nasal Spray, Pro-Banthine (for ulcers), and anesthesia agents
- fire retardants (PBDEs) used in fabrics, carpets, upholstery, and mattresses
- hot tub and swimming pool treatment chemicals
Get too much and you can get bromine toxicity.
What does bromine do to your body?
It displaces iodine which leads to an increased risk for breast, theyroid gand, ovary and prostate cancers. Because it is so much more in the news now than before, this phenomena is now known as the Bromide Dominance Theory.
It doesn’t stop there. Bromide builds up in your central nervous system and can cause many other problems such as actue paranoia and other psychotic symptoms.
Symptoms such as skin rashes and severe acne
loss of appetite and abdominal pain
fatigue
metallic taste
Cardiac arrhythmias should be brought to the attention of your medical professional.
It’s interesting to note that Japan cancer rates are much lower because they eat more iodine related food.
Hypothyroidism has risen greatly in the past few decades. Could the fact that bromine affects the iodine in your body possibly be connected? The latest U.S. estimates that 13 million Americans have it but it is thought that the actual numbers are much greater to the tune of 10 to 40 percent more.
Avoiding bromine is like trying to avoid air pollution. It’s here and probably here to stay.
So what options does that leave you with?
- try eating organic as much as possible and that includes bread and flour
- use ozone in your hot tub instead of chemical treatments
- use personal products without toxins. What goes on you goes in you!
- cross ventilate your car or room as quickly as possible, use fans to disperse toxic fumes
- avoid unfermented soy which causes havoc on your thryoid (this includes soy milk)
- cleanse often and give your body the nutrients it needs to rebuild
Other Places To Be Wary Of
Let's Take A Closer Look
It's not only on the inside that we have to worry about getting toxins from, but also from the outside.
If your car is expelling pollutants from the exhaust, then you can be assured that it is affecting you on the inside.
The Ecology Center, a non-profit environmental group, used a portable X-Ray fluorescence device to identify the elemental composition of material such as chlorine, bromine, arsenic, mercury and others.
They checked the dashboard, steering wheel, carpet, armrests and other locations. All these toxins get released over time under pressure of heat.
It seems that the Nissan Versa was the most harmful to our health of all the vehicles tested. Ever watched, Heroes? Well out guy that blinks to other time periods, Hiro, drives that car in the series.
So things are not as clear as they seem. You can check out more care resource results at the Healthy Car site.

Yes, Richard, we are being bombarded by toxins every which way and we can't get rid of the sources as big business rules the day.
But we can be proactive and address the problem on a personal level by cleansing the toxins from our bodies on a regular basis.

This was a very educational hub and I had no idea about the dangers of bromine or bromides. Thanks for sharing.
