What Happened to Air France Flight 447?

Air France Flight 447 went missing during a flight from Rio de Janerio to France, June 1, 2009. JLHanna, a 22 year old college student and I, a 48 year old out of work due to a severe back injury, had a discussion about the issue of what we thought happened to Air France Flight 447.

Introduction

Me - I think it is really terrible that an airplane has disappeared out of the sky with no trace as to what has happened to it.

JLHanna - Even though is seems easy to do and many people have gone through this in the past, I think it is absolutely amazing that anyone could lose something as large as an airplane. Especially considering it holds any kind of life form on board and is worth thousands of dollars in itself.

1. What do you think happened to Air France Flight 447?

Me - I think that Air France Flight 447 got caught in that bad thunderstorm, even though planes these days can get away from storms by either going around them or above them. Maybe the storm came up quicker than expected and caught the crew off guard.

JLHanna - Several things could have happened to the plane and it is hard to decide exactly what could have happened. Sure it could have gotten stuck in a thunderstorm but havn’t tons of planes gotten stuck in a storm and made it okay. Do planes ever get struck by lightning? It could have ran out of gas which may also be unlikely too because the airlines are pretty good at dealing with this. They would not let the plane take off from the airport if it didn’t have enough gas. If there was a leak in the fuel lines wouldn’t they call in for help to get refueled? But they were stuck in a storm maybe they couldn’t get a call through…. See any number of things could have happened.

2. Why do you think that Air France Flight 447 went off the radar?

Me - I think Air France Flight 447 went off the radar because it might have been that during the thunderstorm the plane was torn to shreds.

JLHanna - I think the flight went off the radar because the plane went down. Theres always a risk of terrorists but an emergency call should have gone through to dispatch, even if the call was just static from the storm they should have received something. If it was terrorists we would have seen or found the outcome of their actions by now. The plane could have went down out of the radar because something was wrong with the plane and the storm wouldn’t have helped matters at all.

3. Do you think that Air France Flight 447 was hit by lightning?

Me - Yes, I do think that Air France Flight 447 was hit by lightning although, I read that planes these days can withstand storms. This might have been a very powerful storm.

JLHanna - The only thing that really makes sense is that the storm influenced something not good to happen to the airplane. I think it got stuck in the storm, couldn’t get a call out and had to crash land or went down on its own. I’m sure it hasn’t landed safely or we would have heard something from someone by now.

4. Do you feel that there would be any survivors of Air France Flight 447?

Me - Even though I wish and hope and pray that Air France Flight 447's passenger and crew are all safe and alive, the more time passes, the more I am thinking the worse.

JLHanna - The longer the passengers and plane has been missing the less likely I am to hope for any of them to have survived the initial crash. If anyone has survived then it is truly a miracle because plane accidents can be brutal and from movies I’ve watched and my imagination it may not be so great if any of them survived and were stranded somewhere trying to survive with what little they may have. I do not wish any harm to anyone or anything of the like it just may be best at this point if there were no survivors.

5. Do you think there is anything that could be done to prevent this kind of event from happening again?

Me - To prevent this kind of thing from happening again I think there has to be better tracking equipment for airplanes. Also, there needs to be better weather prediction services.

JLHanna - I believe there is always something better that could be done especially when it comes to airplanes and the such. There has to be some more advanced way of tracking airplanes so that when things like this happen in the future the plane could be easily and quickly found. This should have been a top priority and there should have been some idea that worked by now.

Conclusion

Me - This was a very tragic event that occured today and I do hope and pray that there will be survivors. My heartfelt sympathies go out for the families and friends of the passengers and crew members. It must be a terrible thing to go through. I think the not knowing would be the worst because then there is always lots of speculation about what could have happened.

JLHanna - This was a very tragic event that happened today and I do hope that everyone on that plane is found SAFE and ALIVE. I do not wish any harm to them but if they are not safe then I hope they don’t have to go through any more serious challenges. I wish all my best to the friends and familys who are left to wonder what has happened.

Two bodies from the Air France plane that disappeared last week, have been found in the Atlantic Ocean. They are still searching for others as well as the black boxes.
