What I Hate About MLM's

What I hate about MLMs
Know what I hate about MLMs? I hate the way they are presented. More times than not, MLM opportunities are presented as get rich quick schemes. Know what I mean? They are presented as though they are illegal pyramids.
If you join an MLM, all you have to do is show it to your friends and you're off. Get four (pick a number four, six, ten...) people to sign up. Teach them how to sign up four (six, ten, etc) people and watch your bank account grow.
And of course, this is followed closely by the next Seven Great Lies of Network Marketing:
- Everyone is your prospect
- This really isn't sales
- Anyone can do this
- We'll build your business for you
- We have the best products ever
- You just don't have enough belief
- We have a proven system
Well, OK... But if all these things are true, then how can it also be true that 97% of people who sign up for an MLM experience never reach the point where they actually make money? I don't know about you, but I don't want to take a chance on anything that only has a 3% probability of success!
This marketing technique, if you can even call it a marketing technique, preys upon people's greed. It takes advantage of people who are facing uncertain financial futures at a time when they cannot afford to lose money on a scam. This marketing technique is simply an effort to elicit an emotional response from prospects in order to sign them up.
Personally, I believe in hard work. Earning what I deserve. And being paid for my successes. If MLM's really could make millionaires out of people with virtually no effort on their part, everyone would be a millionaire, and they would be knocking down MLMer's doors to sign up!
What I Love About MLMs
All that being said, I really do love MLMs!
My husband was in sales, and I learned through first hand experience that a lot of money can be made in sales. My husband was making six figures selling insurance in the late 1970's through the 1980's. He earned much more than the average household income and he did not work for three months each summer. Along with that, there was unlimited opportunity to make even more money, simply by working harder. Of course, the flip side was also true, and when we took vacations, the next month's pay check might be a little bit skimpy!
MLM is sales. And because it is sales, there is a huge potential to write your own paycheck.
You can work as hard as you want and make as much money as you want to work hard for.
If you want to take a vacation, you don't have to ask your boss's permission.
If you decide not to work for a day, a week, or a month, you don't have to answer to a boss. You set your own quotas, and answer only to yourself. Well, maybe to your spouse, too.
You cannot be fired. You can only stop earning money.
An MLM is an inexpensive way to start your own business. Robert Kiyosaki and Donald Trump both endorse MLMs as a viable way to generate a second stream of income. They both make more money than I do, so if you don't believe me, research these two millionaires and their MLM beliefs.
You can develop a residual, passive income flow. If you are willing to put the work into the company, train your recruits to successfully market with ethics and integrity; you can build a business that will continue to pay you when you go on vacation. Or retire.
So How Do You Build a Business Without the Part I Hate?
To start out, stop the hype! If you haven't built a viable business by simply signing up a few friends, stop telling prospects that's all it takes! Don't sell the lie just because you bought it. Sell the truth.
Building a business takes time and it takes effort. If you are willing to put in the time and the work, you can make money on MLM.
Chose a company that sells a product you believe in. Remember, this is a sales job. So, you need a product you can honestly endorse.
Invest in your self development. Any sales job requires unique skills and perspectives you may not have learned in other jobs and probably did not learn in school. Your attitude is everything.
Build your business based on honest, ethical, professional principles. An MLM business is no different than any other business. Present yourself as a professional. Teach your recruits how to be professional as well.
Learn positive, honest, professional marketing techniques. Fortunately, there is a lot of useful information available regarding the use of attraction Internet marketing and how to apply it to your MLM business. Replace any over-hyped marketing tendencies you may have been taught by your upline with attraction marketing techniques and you will be taking a positive step forward.
If you need a step-by-step guide to teach you to incorporate attraction marketing into your MLM system, I recommend the Renegade University. The Renegade is a very low cost program that teaches how to use the Internet to attract prospects to your business. The theory is that by providing useful information to potential prospects, you will build a positive relationship with that prospect. Because of this relationship, the prospect will want to work with you.
I encourage you to review an overview and testimonials of the Renegade University.
The Renegade has helped me incorporate professional marketing techniques into my MLM business. So, now my MLM is a business I can love and no longer hate! It can do the same for your business.

Hello, This is the program that I used to grow my MLM business with Million Dollar Body.
Hey Pam - this was such a great hub. I read it throught word for word. Very captivating. Terri
What does MLM stand for? I feel like I know much more about this (well, I'd never heard of it before)... but did I miss the explanation of this acronym?
MLM stands for Multi-Level Marketing. I guess I should have defined it or at least spelled it out in my hub! Sorry!
Very nice hub.I was involved in MLM before four years but I don't like that because you have to show the product to every one who you know. They will purchase the product because of your goodwill and not because of company or product. And your down line is also not interested to do this. These days I am using Google AdSense to make money online and happy to write,I am successfully earning decent income without selling anything to anybody. All I doing from home.Without calling anyone we can earn money from home then why we use our goodwill?
I think these systems are the best opportunities out there for average people. BUT you have to find the right one and it has to be legitimate - and you are right, the real ones are definitely not get rich quick schemes. You have to work your butt off!!
I still believe direct sales is the best way, least expensive way for a person to go into business for themself. But you're right, it is hard work. It's amazing to me that anyone might think they can start a business and not have to work their butt off! Nothing worthwhile is easy.
I know exactly what you mean! When I got started in mlm my upline was like: "You are going to make a lot of money, just start talking to people". I did that and failed miserably. I can't believe those ancient methods are still being taught. I love the internet.

Very nicely said, Pam. I enjoy the sense of community that comes with network marketing, but am still learning the 'ropes', and trying to avoid the aspects of maketing that I find personally distasteful. Ann Sieg's book and Mike Klingler's training are setting me on the right path.
