Defining Critical Thinking

If you've ever watched a movie and heard the term critical thinking and wondered what on earth this is, then I'm going to try and help you to "get it"

The premise of this interesting method of information filtering is to use critical deductions to reach an outcome that is the most logical.

Maybe you've had a brainteaser or a puzzle of some type that when you heard the actual answer - it kinda threw you. This is because critcal evaluation can be an eye opening experience to both learn and behold. The answer may be other than what you'd expect using old world deductions.

Logical And Intellective Reasoning

Critical Thinking involves certain criteria that a practitioner might apply in order to reach a valid and logical outcome. Whilst objectivity is a natural precursor to intellective critique, it can often lead the person to believe the flaws in their own logic.

With the deductive reasoning process inherent in critical thinking, flawed logic can be pin pointed and extracted.

Removing Assumptions

Assumptions play no part in the critical evalution process as you seek to reason at the highest possible level. A assumption might be considered the opposite of apt thinking as an assumed outcome could be fatally flawed. The removal of predispositions and assumptions is an essential part of the reasoning process as the true nature of the outcome relies on the processing of only relevant information - not opinion, prior belief or subjective assumptions.

Indeed critical thinking is an interesting prospect

Intelligence And Resonance

The term reasonance is used to describe one's abilty to see a problem clearly without being threatened by the possiblity that the problem may be too difficult too deal with.

In terms of problem solving, resonance allows one to remove fear and thus supress emotional instability that could in turn release chemicals involved in trepedation and alarm.

Cortisol can attack the brains ability to form logical conclusions, which is why when you are stressed you often have clouded judgment.

In terms of critical thinking, it is easier when you exhibit calm over your emotional state.

Are you intellectual

So what defines an intellectual?  Do you have to be an intellectual to be a critical thinker?

These aren't exactly the questions that keep me up at night, but they do ponder something worth simmering.

Most people would agree an intellectual is a mixture of liking intellective pursuits and also being good at them.  As for needing to be an intellectual type to be a critical thinker, I don't think that's the case at all.

Anyone can learn critical thinking if they have the desire and the patience.
