The Internet is so wide and broad that most businesses, even the smallest ones, have some sort of online presence. When the business model shifts to the Internet, so do the marketing strategies and promotion principles. Email marketing is one such tool that is used to market over Internet. As the name suggests, the emails are used as medium or vehicle of the marketing.


Why you should do it?

If you were thinking that email is just another marketing medium, you are wrong. It is turning out to be the medium. The effective way to reach people and the importance of emails to people has made it a great tool that can be effective independently. You can use emails to find yourself new customers for your business, maintain a communication link with the already existing customers, or to give periodic updates on various product-related aspects.

How do you get a list?

Getting legitimate, permission-based email addresses is not always easy. There are some specific services that can give you email collection, which has the listing of the persons who are interested in receiving specific genre of product promotions. However their effectiveness is questionable as many email addresses change each year and email providers create addresses specifically to trap spammers. You might find yourself in one of those traps if you buy or rent a list. What you really should do is have customers give you their email addresses by using a Web-based list builder.

1. Permisson

Make sure you have permission from the customer to send those emails; it is better to have a description of what the email is about, and a link to let them unsubscribe. Make it clear as to why the emails are sent to the email address or you may be spoiling the reputation of your company and the emails may be classified as junk or spam.

2. Frequency

The frequency of emails must be maintained at an optimum level or the customer might not like the emails and may ignore and even unsubscribe within short span.

3. Message

Have the promos and sales messages brought out in the emails listing the advantages the customer gets by reading them.

What are the benefits?

If you have good contacts, you can easily sell new products. Your promotions will be more targeted, reaching out to customers who want what you're selling. The target audience is important in the email sphere and if you promote your goods wisely, you'll gain your customers' trust.
