Syndication

You may have noticed the icon on the right side frequently on most of the web sites. Specially news sites , blogs or technical sites. This icon indicates syndication. The term Syndication is used to refer to the process of making the content matter of a website or blog to another software or website without further user intervention. In simple terms syndication or more specifically website syndication is refers to a mechanism of displaying latest updated information on a site or a blog. Whenever the content of the website or blog is updated , the updated information is shown on the site subscribing the source website.

Website syndication is a very effective way for the source websites to advertise their content on as many sites as possible without much effort. Moreover, syndication is also a very effective way for the websites displaying information to give their content more depth and and relevance as the web feeds , which is a data format used to facilitate syndication , are automatically updated and their visitors also do not have to search for additional information.

This syndication is facilitated through special softwares known as aggregator programs. Morever rss feeders are also used for web syndication. In most cases a link is dragged from web browser itself works a aggregator. So what aggregator does is that it goes to syndicated site to check for updates and displays the latest content with link and summary.

You can also use RSS Feeder for web site syndication.There are many advantages of using syndication like the user does not have to give his vital information while subscribing to web feeds , there are many free softwares available for the purpose.

One more word about RSS. RSS is also known as really simple syndication or RDF Site Summary. RSS is a XML based data format which makes it platform independant. RSS is one of the most widely used web feed file formats to display frequently updated information.
