What Makes A Great Blog?
64
Bloggers tend to go too far into the technicalities of blogging when they are engineering a blog for themselves. They think about things like design, adding links to the blog, and inserting videos. However, very few bloggers actually spend time on the one thing that is really the backbone of the blog: content. And without good content, a blog is worth next to nothing.
Despite the broad notion that content is king, not just any content works. Hence, here are some tips on creating the right kind of content for your blog.
1. Keep your blog language interesting
A common mistake that most bloggers do is that they tend to become too preachy and too technical. This certainly does not work if you have a business blog. If you have a business blog, you will need to tell people about your product and what your product does and does not do, but you do not have to go into technical overdrive and bore the people who come to read your posts. Keep a conversational tone in all your posts. It should sound like you are telling something to a client knows very little about your product and needs an introduction from square one.
2. Speak 'with' your readers, not 'to' the readers
Do not alienate your readers. You will have to speak a lot about your product and that in itself puts a sort of distinction between you and your readers, but you do not have to go and make your readers feel like you are the great guru and they are your disciples. Involve your readers as much as possible in the blog discussion. Invite their opinions and suggestions, and keep an option for them to voice their problems as well. This makes your product sound real and your blog more interesting.
3. Give examples and anecdotes
This is what truly brings the life into a business blog. Every once in a while, post a story of someone who has used your product. It is best if you can get the actual person to write the story, but if you can't, write it in a third-person tone. Such anecdotes will make your blog seem quite interesting to read and help you create a brand identity.
4. Get versatile content for your blog
You may be a great writer, but if if you tackle the same subjects with the same type of language, your content may become boring. You have to make very sure that boring content does not come at all into your business blog. You can solve this problem by getting different people to write for your blog. You can do this by visiting other blogs similar to yours and making posts there, and inviting those people to write on yours. This also helps you to build your own blog community, while getting colorful content written for your blog.
