What Makes Fat Ugly?
59Today's media, magazines and movies portray an image of perfection on humanity by posing thin, women with large chests, and muscular tall men as the pinnacles of beauty. Have you ever stepped back and asked yourself, "Why do I find a thin, tanned women attractive and not an average sized women?" Sure it has become natural to not be attracted this type of person, but did society always follow these same guidelines to determine what is beautiful?
In the middle ages a man often sought after a plump women because it was a sign that she was well fed and came from a wealthy family. Food was scare and many did not have time or money to partake in gluttony as so many do. Yet there was no fascination with tanning, toning or loosing weight. Makeup, hair dye and accessories were unheard of except for the aristocrats or royalty. How much longer until the next social transition?
The colonel days had women parading around with long white whigs, powder to pale their faces, and a black dot above their lips. Take a look at this image today and we feel absolutely nothing, however, only 200 years ago this was the equivalent to Jessica Alba. Does society dictate through media, messages and the determined social norms to shape us to feel attracted to a certain "type" of human being?
I am a huge advocate of physical fitness, and exercise daily. I wouldn't support letting yourself go to the point of being unhealthy, yet I feel as a society we have let the most important and everlasting human trait become insignificant compared to looks. That trait is who is your. Your personality and who you will always be. How many personalities have you not met in life because of their looks?

Thanks Jackie! I can only imagine how difficult your line of work must be. Yes, you brought a great point, what's inside CAN kill us. I'm actually a huge advocate of physical fitness and leading a healthy lifestyle. I know some people's genetic makeup can cause them to struggle with weight loss, so it's all the more important to be aware of your health and eat right.

Uh, yeah, I've asked myself that. The answer is "because she's hot!"
:-)
Rofl @ dietreviews :poh, and now we're talking about tanned women, in the older times (dunno when, lacking history fashion knowledge, lol) people found tan ugly, and white pretty, because tan meant you worked hard outside and got dirty, and white meant you were rich enough to have people work for you, and you had an umbrella :D
Tanning is ugly as I dont know what. I dunno why you people still think it's hot, as if you all still live in the 80's.

Love your submission! I think there are still men that don't mind a plump woman. I know quite a few FIT men that think some women are too thin when I would LOVE to be their size. Then again, when I thought I was fat, I was told I wasn't. I know they are lying if they say it now.
I am an experienced cardiac nurse and the truth of the matter is that fat poses too many health risks. Is it easy to stay fit? No. Easy to lose? No. Is it true when say it's "what's inside that matters?" Yes. But, what's inside can KILL us.
There are a lot of beautiful overweight people, but unfortunately, it comprises a very large number of patients in the hospital. Oh well, job security.
I know since I have put on weight I can truly appreciate how HARD it is to lose.
