What Makes The Difference

Is It So?
Is It So?
We should join our hands for a betterment!
We should join our hands for a betterment!
Children grow up illiterate.
Children grow up illiterate.

WHAT MAKES THE DIFFERENCE?

That day while hoping from website to website, my eyes happened to meet the wordings, “Education for all.”

Like anyone else should have done, I  declared it to be correct and moved on.

But the very same day I  realized  that those wordings weere lifeless and meaningless.

I pondered and asked myself, “Is it really the case? Is not even single person deprived of this wealth? Is education in reach of everyone?”

As a day to day routine, that day also sharp at eleven in the morning, my maid arrived with her young girl who was my contemporary.

I don’t know what but something did compelled me to question myself, “What makes the difference between you and that young girl? Why did her fortune ended up slaving for someone and mine ruling over someone?”

Well the time elapsed and different thoughts kept on ensnaring my mind.

Say it an eye-opener or whatever you want to but that exact day I happened to be travelling in my car when on different signals my eyes witnessed different types of people (old-aged,children,lame,blind,etc.) spreading out their hands infront of others.

Once again, my inner voice cried out but a more stronger and provoking this time and asked me as before, “What makes the difference between you and them?”

I replied to myself with bewilderment, “Perhaps, poverty.”

The wind blew in another direction and mind took a turn and reminded me that there must be something which gave birth to poverty. What that can be?

Instantly my mind clicked and told me that illiteracy is something that makes the difference. It is such an evil plant of which roots run deep and firm. We need to eradicate it.

We can not make others held responsible for prevailing this disease far and wide when we ourselves are so blameworthy. One must sweep before one’s own door.

I realized what harm could it have done to me if I would have educate my contemporary, my maid’s daughter? It would have only required some time to make no difference between me and her.

Rich people can open schools where they can provide education free of cost and I am certain that yet there are many people who won’t even ask for a penny for imparting their knowledge to others.

Why can’t we take the initiatives? Why can’t we start a journey? I think we should for if one starts a journey there are many fellow-songster to accompany him.

Illiteracy isn’t a crisis for a or two countries but a worlwide problem so, acting as a single nation,we all must join our hands together, forgetting all differences of colour, caste and creed, to labour for humanity and to put an end to evils of our society like illiteracy.

Someone said true, “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.”

I would like to conclude it with my poem, “What makes the difference?”

Compare that face
searchiong for some trace
with a face
full of content and grace

Compare those questioning eyes
tired of cries
with those eyes
which never gave any such tries

Compare those hands
playing in the sands
with those hands
which are very grand

Compare those bare feet
fighting against the heat beat
with those feet
which the comfortable slippers treat

Compare that soul
whose each day is foul
with a soul
which horrible dreams never howl

What makes the difference?
who is given more preferance?

A quotation says

Tis education forms the common mind
just as the twig is bent tree is inclined

To this thought did we ever gave a glance
but now in our acts we must advance

Very insightful hub Umna & so well written! The point u raise is indeed true & we all need to join hands together to fight it, even if we make a small difference by teaching our maids to read & write or myb volunteering in kachi abadi schools. A single lighted candle can help many people showing them the right path of life.

I love how you put forth this matter with your thought process. So much easier said than done. When we find out the why, perhaps doing will be just as easy as saying. Beautiful piece.

yeah...u are right "example is better than percpect"......but i think to give a start to something motivational talks play an important role!!!

I too, from the core of my heart want to abolish this DIFFERENCE....my eyes wish to see my country, not only my country but the whole world to prosper and live with peace. I want to becom a source to this prosperity.

But as being just a student of ninth class, I can only write to evoke others.

Thanks for your support and i'm surely gonna ask your help if i need without any hesitation :)

You are so correct in the way you perceive this issue...

Imagine if the finest teachers in the world could be brought together to create lessons of study for all levels of education and it be posted on the internet to be available for all to learn from the best educators ~ does it not seem selfish that this is not done... It seems as though the powers that be want to keep their control by not letting people grow in understanding of the need for the distribution of wealth and resources of the world...

Its quite interesting that you have recognized this flaw in humanity's stewardship... Well done... Keep reminding the world that they indeed have a responsibility to raise the bar of human stewardship... Well done indeed...
