Ah.. .this is the age old question of what makes coffee beans offer the delicious flavors that they do so that we can partake in every cup of Joe that we so enjoy. The truth is that there are so many fun facts surrounding the coffee bean itself, which are actually berries that are red or purple that grow on the coffee plant.  These berries are opened up to reveal the coffee beans inside, with most berries holding two coffee beans, while some will hold one. If the coffee beans come out completely round, then those are called peaberries, which are different specialty altogether.

Coffee beans themselves contain caffeine in the endosperm of the bean at 0.8 to 2.5%, which is responsible for putting that pep in your step when you enjoy a delicious cup of Joe! Every bean has their own unique taste, which is primarily dependent upon the region that it comes from and the conditions that it was grown in. Arabica beans are the main coffee beans that are generally exported as the second most in demand commodity in the world, following oil. Arabica make up the majority of the coffee beans exported, with the remainder being Robusta beans at 25 to 30%.

Before you can purchase a bag of freshly roasted coffee beans, they have to be processed and expertly roasted so that the coffee beans are removed from the berries, or cherries, of the coffee plant itself. From that point, the green coffee beans are then roasted to specific preferences, depending on whether the roast will be light or dark as a result, and they may also be pre-ground for packaging. If you are looking for a darker roast, specifically for espresso, and then you can count on that being roasted in a type labeled Viennese or French roast, which signifies that it is a darker espresso roast.

Flavored coffee beans are becoming more and more popular, especially with the trend that was started in America, and natural flavoring can be added to the beans during the roasting process. The flavoring is done with natural and organic oils at about 1/2 ounce per pound of beans, which still makes it calorie and fat free with a natural flavor added. Make sure that the flavored coffee that you are purchasing is of the highest quality in using organic and natural oils to provide flavors so that you are not drinking any coffee with harsh chemical additives. The most important thing for you to understand as a coffee lover is that the quality of flavor given to the coffee that you are enjoying comes from the treatment of the coffee bean during the growth process. This is why it is important to purchase Organic and Fair Trade coffee, simply because they avoid using pesticides, and they also use the method of crop rotation to make sure that the soil has enough nutrients to harvest the coffee plants fully every season. This is specifically going to contribute to the best tasting Java you will ever have!
