What Methods Does Satan use to Tempt People?

By SirDent

Satan knows what it takes to cause us to ponder committing a sin or doing something we aren't supposed to do. He uses the pride of the flesh to cause us to sin or tempt us to sin. This is how he deceived Eve in the garden of Eden and he uses the same method to tempt us today.

He knows where we are weak and what causes us problems in our walks with the Lord. Once it is said and done, pride is the reason we reach out for what we are tempted with.

Satan will use those who are closest to us to tempt us. He will use your wife, husband, children, mother or father to tempt you. One thing Satan cannot do is to make us do something wrong. You can give him a gun but he cannot use it. He can get someone else to use it but cannot use it himself.

Satan will use your old friends to tempt you. Those you used to run around with drinking and doing many other things that you shouldn't do. They will try to pull you back into the old life that you left behind when you accepted Jesus into your heart.

Satan will also use some that you go to church with to tempt you. I know it's hard to fathom for many of you but it's true. Many are weak and don't know any better. Some are strong and just don't care. One thing I believe should be stressed about this topic. No matter what temptation comes up before you, you have the power to resist it.

Unclean spirits

Unclean spirits are always contrary to God. The flesh of man could possibly be called an unclean spirit. That isn't what this hub is about though. It is about the evil and wicked spirits of the world that do indeed manipulate men and women into doing things that are evil and wicked. Rapes and murders everywhere all around the world. Unclean spirits are what cause these. Nobody can say there aren't unclean spirits in the world.

What is the most dangerous spirit? My opinion is the one that will tell almost the whole truth, but tell enough of a lie to draw someone off the right track. It might tell 95% truth and 5% lie. It will seem to be right, but not right. It's a simple concept to understand. Unclean spirits have many different voices. They pretend to be God, but yet fall short. They want to be revered as God and are by many different people.

My question now is, do you worship an unclean spirit?

The name Devil means to "throw". He just throws and throws these evil ideas to us until it becomes a full concept to us. Then for some reason, we succumb to these temptations, knowing fully well that it is wrong. Thank God for His faithfulness and never-ending forgiveness.

May we all learn how to resist the devil so he would just flee!

thanks for sharing.

SirDent;

Thanks for writing this and referring me to it. As you know, I have been wondering how to wage battle against satan who thrives on hubpages.

Satan is so tricky. He cannot be stopped by our own accord, but he is known to be no match for Jesus. We need the protection of our savior to spot all the deceit of the enemy. If we want to eliminate our sin, we have the power through Jesus to do that.

I am glad that you cleared up for me that satan uses people exclusively in the physical form. I think this is a key distinction that may help us fight satan. If we just realize that all that are not with God are against Him, we then realize that satan is in all who are not with God. Then, we can realize that our battle is with the devil in those people not with God.

Then, the fight is clear, and it is not personal. Those who fight for God fight against satan who exists in those not in God's army.

I guess I struggle with those who proclaim religious neutrality. I know that it sends the atheists into orbit, but I believe His word that we are either for him or against Him. That is not to say that I would do anything to anyone. That is not me, but if we cannot see who the enemy really is, we are bound to lose the fight. This is clearly a fight against satan.

Great hub. I'm glad you did it. We all need to be reminded how he works and to keep our spiritual eyes open for it. As for what you said about people in church, it's true, but sad. I have heard many preachers say that while we are sitting in church to look around and less than half of those you sit in church with on Sunday mornings will be in Heaven. How sad is that? You are so right, he uses every single thing he can to tempt us and get us off track of our mission. Keep up the great work for Him. As always, you have my respect. Blessings to you and your family.

VP and allshookup, I appreciate your comments. Satan throws everything at us that he possibly can, but it is always through another person. We must keep our shield of faith at the ready at all times to quench his fiery darts.

Your saying satan possesses the ones close to you in order to temp your will. You realize satan would also be using you as a tool to temp the ones that love you. I for one am not a tool for satan as your paranoia seems to tell you. Perhaps instead of blaming your mistakes on the temptations of satan you will live up to them as God would expect you to do. Satan will never be powerful enough to temp the Godfull...this makes me worried for some of the posters in this thread that think your loved ones are out to hurt you. Shame on you.

Alumin, I think you need to go back and actually read this article instead of skimming it over. I also think you should check the Word of God out and see what kind of power Satan does have. He is not a weakling by any means. He can destroy whoever God allows him to and he is the tempter.

Alumin  says:

SirDent I think you actually need to read over what you wrote as I'm directly referring to what you said. "Satan will use those who are closest to us to tempt us. He will use your wife, husband, children, mother or father to tempt you". What you just said is the ones you love are possessed by satan...and that if your loved ones are believers in God... satan uses YOU to tempt everyone you love. So if satan is using everyone to temp eachother your surely invisioning a godless world. None of my loving family would ever submit to the powers of satan to temp other loved ones unless they where followers of satan themselves.

"One thing Satan cannot do is to make us do something wrong. You can give him a gun but he cannot use it. He can get someone else to use it but cannot use it himself." So if satan can't make us do something wrong then how is he using your family to temp you? Wouldn't this be wrong? He can't use the gun himself but he can make others use it? Again, this would be making someone do something wrong and you just said in the begining of the sentance that he can't...

"Satan will use your old friends to tempt you. Those you used to run around with drinking and doing many other things that you shouldn't do. They will try to pull you back into the old life that you left behind when you accepted Jesus into your heart." Jesus himself drank wine, and your assuming that your old life was full of sin before you accepted jesus. Accepting Jesus doesn't make you a righteous person...you have to use his will as a guidline. Also what if your old friends have also accepted Jesus...are you questioning the power and will of god? Do you think your the only capable friend in the group to accept God? This sounds very selfish to me...in fact if your old friends went by your words surley they would think you are a bad influence as well....

"Satan will also use some that you go to church with to tempt you. I know it's hard to fathom for many of you but it's true. Many are weak and don't know any better. Some are strong and just don't care. One thing I believe should be stressed about this topic. No matter what temptation comes up before you, you have the power to resist it." Once again you take the blame off yourself and put it on other people. If people that you go to church with temp you...then surely your doing satans work as well to temp them. You are acting like everyone but yourself is being used to temp for sin when you make one sided conclusions like that.

Overall SirDent, I belive you are blinded by satan and doing his work as we speak. You are far confused and self indulged. The things you say are one sided and selfish. I beleive your writings are to put fear and paranoia in your readers as you tell them satan is wandering in people of wedlock!! This is outrageous and surely if you where a true follower of GOD you would know that he is much greater than satan and would not allow it. SirDent speaks in toungues of the devil as he is the one temping you...making you weary and unsure about your loved ones.

Alumin, I'm sorry but I cannot sit here quiet as I read what you said to SirDent. You apprently haven't read many of his hubs or posts. I take it as a huge insult that you say that satan is using this man. That is the furtherst thing from the truth. I however have read and see how this man acts on this board. He is being used of God. If you would read the hub as how it was written it would help you. To me he is telling me to keep my eyes open for satan is a roaming lion seeking whom he may devour and he will stop at nothing to hurt or tempt those who follow Christ. He will use anyone or anything he can. It seems you are looking for things wrong with this hub and not reading it to see how it can help you. SirDent serves God, I see it in his hubs and posts. I hate that you can't see that. Because if you could open your eyes to see what SirDent is, you would recieve a blessing as those of us who know him do. I am thankful to know this man and feel honored to call him a friend.

Again this was never meant to offend anybody , I simply pointed out the fact that anybody can be used as a method of temptation (what Alumin very poorly explained) however, Not giving into temptation is GREAT! 1 John 4

1Beloved, every spirit believe not, but prove the spirits, if of God they are, because many false prophets have gone forth to the world;

2in this know ye the Spirit of God; every spirit that doth confess Jesus Christ in the flesh having come, of God it is,

3and every spirit that doth not confess Jesus Christ in the flesh having come, of God it is not; and this is that of the antichrist, which ye heard that it doth come, and now in the world it is already.

4Ye -- of God ye are, little children, and ye have overcome them; because greater is He who [is] in you, than he who is in the world.

5They -- of the world they are; because of this from the world they speak, and the world doth hear them;

6we -- of God we are; he who is knowing God doth hear us; he who is not of God, doth not hear us; from this we know the spirit of the truth, and the spirit of the error.

7Beloved, may we love one another, because the love is of God, and every one who is loving, of God he hath been begotten, and doth know God;

8he who is not loving did not know God, because God is love.

9In this was manifested the love of God in us, because His Son -- the only begotten -- hath God sent to the world, that we may live through him;

10in this is the love, not that we loved God, but that He did love us, and did send His Son a propitiation for our sins.

11Beloved, if thus did God love us, we also ought one another to love;

12God no one hath ever seen; if we may love one another, God in us doth remain, and His love is having been perfected in us;

13in this we know that in Him we do remain, and He in us, because of His Spirit He hath given us.

14And we -- we have seen and do testify, that the Father hath sent the Son -- Saviour of the world;

15whoever may confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God in him doth remain, and he in God;

16and we -- we have known and believed the love, that God hath in us; God is love, and he who is remaining in the love, in God he doth remain, and God in him.

17In this made perfect hath been the love with us, that boldness we may have in the day of the judgment, because even as He is, we -- we also are in this world;

18fear is not in the love, but the perfect love doth cast out the fear, because the fear hath punishment, and he who is fearing hath not been made perfect in the love;

19we -- we love him, because He -- He first loved us;

20if any one may say -- `I love God,' and his brother he may hate, a liar he is; for he who is not loving his brother whom he hath seen, God -- whom he hath not seen -- how is he able to love?

21and this [is] the command we have from Him, that he who is loving God, may also love his brother.

n the verses it doesn't mention Satan or his tmeptaions at all. That is the point -If John didn't mention them then where is the rest of his story in conjuction with all the others who said that Satan tempts men?

If you love then God is in you and that is what is states in those scriptures. There is no room for fear and that is supposed to be of satan. Satan is not overpowering God--not in these scriptures. John says that there is no room for fear in you if you love-----it even goes as far as to say that he loved us fisrt and not the other way around---so that would make sense that Satna cannot tempt us and he has no poser over us at allo. If you ignore something or someone for a long time--then that person goes away and becomes no more.

Satna can't have as much power as you or anyone else says, else there would be no world and no God and God will have none of that! He would just wipe him out--and whose to say that he hasn't done this already---according to the words of John God is Love and Love is God and there is no room for anything else.

The point being in relation to your hub is that Satan can't tempt us if we do a simple things such as Love. Do you love SirDent? I think you do and you do alot--so how can Satan tempt you if you already have God and Jesus in your being. The scriptures say simply not to fear. So don't let fear drive you or anyone else here.

LG said:

"If you ignore something or someone for a long time--then that person goes away and becomes no more."

If people were to use that sort of thinking, then that would mean that an atheist can "will away" God by denying His existence and ignoring His love. The universe that God sustains would then ceast to exist.

"Satan can't have as much power as you or anyone else says, else there would be no world and no God and God will have none of that! He would just wipe him out--and whose to say that he hasn't done this already---according to the words of John God is Love and Love is God and there is no room for anything else."

God wants all the angels and humans to have genuine free will; otherwise, we would be nothing more than animals or robots. Satan chose to disobey God, and thus far, God has stepped back and allowed that. And though it is Satan who tempts us to sin, God has given us the free will either to obey Him or sin. Satan has the power to tempt us to sin, but only we have the power to actually commit our personal sin.

If we choose to accept God's will and not give in to temptation, then God will help us beat sin by driving Satan and his temptations away from us. But if we choose to reject God's will, then God will have no choice but to step back and let Satan drive us toward sin and away from the Truth. And this is not because God is either evil or weak; it is because He wants us to have free will without Him forcing us into a decision. God Himself has free will, obviously, and in order for us to be a better reflection of Himself, his GIVES us this free will and the choice to reflect Him even more.
