What Should You Write About on Hubpages

What Should You Write About on Hubpages is a very good question if you are just getting started writing on line for fun and for profit. You may write about any topic except adult themed subjects that are only suitable for adult reading. A few hubbers have been using provocative topics but the content for the most part is clean. The topic is more or less used to bait or bring in readers who are looking to be entertained or amused.

Everyone knows that sex sells. Include sex in your topic and you will get readership, no questions asked. However, the subject must be relevant to what you are writing about. One hubber used the word sex in describing muffins and that was okay because of the creative way in which the article was presented. However, do not blatantly use the word sex in your topics just to get people to open your hub. It is  like going on a shopping trip and leaving your money behind. You are there in the shopping outlet with all of the beautiful artifacts but without the means to purchase. So do not bait someone into reading your article using  the word sex and then leave them agitated because they guessed your motive.

You should write about relevant topics that are of interest to you and to others. Do not write about topics that are not about everyday living unless you do not mind a low readership. The reality shows are popular on television because people get to look in on other people lives and  what they are thinking and then comment  on what they have seen. You want to write about reality, relevance and topics of interest that people will want to comment about like the reality shows. If you notice, some of these shows are not really reality shows because the camera is always on the people on the show. The show becomes a reality when the cameras are not allowed in. Unfortunately, the hubpage staff is there to read what you write as is other hubpages writers. Hubpage writers can flagg an article that they think is offensive to others sexually or morality.  So do not use profanity or topics and information of sexual explicity that may  not be acceptable to others.

Can't Think of Anything to Write About?

If you can not think of anything to write about then use the topics of categories that hubpage has provided on the home page. Write down the category that you are interested in. The topic you select should  be an article that you do not need to do much research on. It is easier to write when you write from experiences because there is no stop and go as you  reference a publication. After you have selected your topic, then you should write down every relevant tidbit of information about the topic. The auxilliary information should answer, who, what, where, how, when, and when about the topic of your selection. If you do not want to write down your topics and subtopics before you begin writing, use Microsoft word and type down all relevant information about your topic.

Although celebrities are popular subjects because of their peculiarities, do not use that subject as your go to topic. Celebrites are alway in the news and getting into something. As soon as they are out of their atrosities, then they are no longer a news item of information. Your readership will subsequently decrease.

Select topics that is about everyday living and your topic will take on a much more "evergreen" slant. Evergreen means that the topic will be of interest infinitely and there will be  no need to update. Some of these topics would be about gardening or cleaning. Planting and caring for plants is a good subject because except for seasonal changes in the weather, the topic can be discussed year around and does not lose its popularity. These evergreen topics should be on what you are knowledgeable about without having to do much research.

Once you decide on a topic, write in a conversational tone as if talking to a friend. A link on Google search revealed that people will read your artice and find it interesting when the topic is of help or benefit to them. Writing is like selling a commodity. The commodity will not sell if the buyer does not find it useful and beneficial. Readers will not read your article unless it contains helpful information that can help them perform a task, manage their day better, or shed some light on a issue of interest.

You should write about a topic that has valuable information about solving an everyday problem. The information contained should be detailed as your availability is only through comments with no direct one on one face to face communication. Link external links to show the reader that you have done the research and have found other channels in which to provide useful information. The reader will appreciate you and may become  a fan because of the extra mile you went to give them additional information..

Ms Chievous, thank you for your comment. When I first started writing on Hubpages, I would not venture far to get my ideas of writing as I liked to become a part of an online community. Many answers from hubpages have made topics for my hub as well. Now however, I find myself venturing to the drop down tab on Google Servce Engine after entering a favorite topice and using other search engines to get ideas. I always start at hubpages answer to get my ideas.

Mrs. Obvious, thank you for your comment. You are right on with agreeing that most authors pull from their lives to get topics for writing.

Nice Page

I always find it easier to write fiction than non-fiction, but non-fiction is a crowd pleaser and a good writer should be well rounded and able to do both.
