10 Facts We Think We Know About Calories

1. Diet Oil Reduces Weight - FALSE!

No matter if it’s olive, sunflower, corn, or soya oil, 1 ml of it has 9 calories. The differences between all kinds of oil lie in the vitamins E and B, each one of them contains.

2. The low-calories soft drinks are good for everybody - FALSE!

Most of the times low calories drinks are prepared with substitutes for sugar and must be considered as medicaments. Also they must be strictly avoided by pregnant and breastfeeding mothers, as well as by children under 3.

3. Honey is a good means of loosing weight - TRUE!

It is due to its water consistency (about 20%). This is also the reason why honey has fewer calories than sugar. A tablespoon of honey right before lunch causes rise in blood sugar (=glykemy) which on its side reduces appetite.

4. Excessive consumption of fruit juices do not cause weight problems - FALSE!

A glass of orange juice has 100 calories. This is true for other fruits as well. Only the lemon juice is calorie-poor with only 11 calories per 100 gr and hence suitable for comsumation.

5. Butter has more fat than oil - FALSE!

It is always with water emulsion, up to 14% and that is why it has fewer calories.

8. Wine makes us fat - TRUE!

Wine is like food. A glass of red wine contains 150 calories due to its alcohol and sugar consistency.

9. Pork is richer in fat than beef - FALSE!

Due to contemporary animal feeding both meats contain equal amount fat.

10. Chocolate is a true calorie-bomb - TRUE!

Regardless of which specific kind, a chocolate bar contains between 480 and 640 calories. That is why its consumption should be very careful and limited.
