Very nice and imformative hub.
Thanks for your comment quicksand. That interesting. I haven't heard of the bitter variety. The sweet variety is very healthy because the naturally occuring sugars are bound to antioxidants and do not cause unhealthy blood sugar changes.
Thanks for your comment Louise and for stopping by!
I have invasive breast cancer and it was one of the recommended juices from the cancer treatment diet I was given, along with mangosteen and acai berry. Great hub!
Thanks for another great and informative hub - we tend to take pomegranates for granted - I have a tree in our garden. I didn't realise just how good it was!
If you do have access to fresh pomegrantes, the fruit tastes great in a salad when combined with boiled and diced beetroot, tossed with vinaigrette dressing.
Well, Steve, the juice of the bitter variety is a shade of green. Some say the taste is due the fruit not ripening to a desired level since no fertilizer is used. Others say the sweetness of the first variety is caused by the action of the fertilizer. I am sure your research will provide more info on this topic. You know it is also hailed as the fruit from Paradise!
Anyways thanks for the valuable info.
Great hub, Steve, as always. You're the HubPages health expert... as far I'm concerned.
The first time I ever heard about the health benefits of pomegranate juice a friend approached me in a market, handed me one of those little tags that comes attached to POMWonderful, and said "read this." I've been drinking pomegranate juice ever since.
Jerilee, thanks for your comment. Glad to hear you are taking a natural approach to your health. Hope you are better soon.
Shalini good to hear from you again. You can't beet organic straight from the garden. You and your family are fortunate.
Quicksand, you can get sweet organic pomegranate juice with no pestisides being involved. This is the kind I use regularly.
Thanks for your comment Constant! It"s makes a great drink. I also uses it in most of my smoothie combinations.
And our idiot landscaper ripped out my fruitful pomeganate trees.... Much of the same benefits can be derived from consuming Nopal cactus - cooked strips used in tacos, salads, soups etc. by the Aztecs and Mexicans today. In Mexico you can buy Nopal supplements in capsules.

I really like pomegranete juice. it is showing up in many beverages now with teas, and combos with blueberry and other juices. I have even heard of a pom and OJ martini, which may not be your idea of a healthful drink-- but it could be a step in the right direction.
Good cause I love it!
Pomegranate juice and vodka make a great sundowner :)
This is very informative!
Thanks very much for the article. Have heard about it before and have also tried it too. Great hub.
Interesting - we have some Pomegranate trees. Time to get the juicer out!
Thanks for that.
This is an informative article. Thank you. I used to only drink pomegranate juice with vodka, but gave up the alcohol and made the same drink without it. Now I'm addicted. Glad to know it's so healthy.

Great info. My children and I have found that we love this juice. Now I have more reasons to drink it.
Thank you so much.
About a year ago, when I turned 70, my blood pressure was inching up to around 84 over 140, not bad, but a caution sign. My doc recommended pom juice. Have a glass every morning. My last BP reading was 71 over 122.
Great hub...thanks for the additional info.
Cheers! Pomegranate juice has a tang like no other...must be those anti-oxidants.
Great hub Steve I happen to have a promegranate Tree growing at my house .
I've not had any in years, but I'll give it a try again tommorow.
I am glad to learn it. It is worth a try.
I'm an expecting mother and I've been drinking the juice simply because its an antioxident and it tastes so good. But I always get it mixed with another juice. I have never tried it by itself. Guess I'm going to the store tomorrow. Thanks for the great hub.
I've been drinking Pom Juice for about 2 months now. I drink about 3-4 ounces every morning. I read where this juice lowers blood pressure and might not mix with certain blood pressure medicines. What does anyone know about this? I take a blood pressure medication and would be sad if I had to stop drinking Pom Juice. Thanks in advance for any help with this question.

Very informative indeed. Pharmecutical guys are hell bent on suppressing information like this.
Although the juice has a sweet flavor, there is one variety of which the juice is bitter. I guess this is from trees on which no fertiliser has been used.
Probably the PH value of the juice is well above 7, since you say it kills cancer cells on contact. Have you heard of the other variety, the bitter one?
