What Your House Number Reveals About Your Home
88
I love numerology.
Is numerology a science? No of course not. Is it logical? Not really. Why should you pay any attention to it at all then? No particular reason, but it is fun, and sometimes it can be surprisingly revealing.
Skeptics would say that numerology only feels revealing because numerological interpretations, like daily horoscopes, are ridiculously general. But other people (like me) who compulsively reduce numbers and 'read' everything, whether it's text or not, know that insights often come laterally, not reductively.
That's a fancy way of saying that sometimes interesting stuff comes at us from right out of left field, and just because we can't pin a rational explanation on it doesn't automatically make it total rubbish.
If nothing else, numerology can be a lot of fun.
One of the numbers that people frequently pass over when analyzing their numerological info is their house address. Most people do have a numerical address, and every living space has a number corresponding to it and certain characteristics and energies specific to that number.
To get your numerological house number, take all the digits in your address and add them until they reduce to a single number between 1 and 9.
So, for example, the White House is located at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
1 + 6 + 0 + 0 = 7
The White House is a #7 house.
If you get another multiple, keep reducing down to one. So, for example if your address is 9968 Black Pond Drive, you reduce it like this:
9 + 9 + 6 + 8 = 32 and 3 + 2 = 5
Your house is a #5.
Now let's look at what your house number says about your living arrangement.
To understand how compatible you are with the energy of the house you live in, you have to also compute your destiny number, which is your birthdate reduced to a single digit. So, I was born on 3/22/1953.
3 + 2 + 2 + 1 + 9 + 5 + 3 = 25, and 2 + 5 = 7.
My destiny number is 7.

The Number One House. The number one house tends to attract entrepreneurial types and people who are headstrong, independent, and have a pioneering spirit. If your destiny number is 1, 3, or 8 this house will suit you well. In its most positive form such a house will support your ambitions and create lots of sunny, good energy. Warm colors, lots of flowers, and lots of sunlight enhance the best features of a number one house. Negative tenants become snobbish and selfish in a number one house. Positive tenants become successful and popular. One houses catch fire a lot, so smoke alarms and extinguishers are a must.
The Number Two House. The number two house is the perfect home for couples, old or young, and is not a good environment for driven ambitious people. Two houses like laid-back and loving people who love to "nest." Cream, green, and white are optimal decorating colors for a number two house, and lots of native plants and trees enhance the positive energy. Positive tenants experience peace, harmony balance in a number two house. Negative tenants may feel lazy and insecure. Best destiny numbers for a two house are 2, 6, or 9. Problems with a two house tend to be underfoot: creaking floors, cracked sidewalks, etc.
The Number Three House. Three is the number of creativity and happy socializing, the kind you expect from groups of artists, actors, or musicians. Three houses often have unique designs or elements of decor and include lots of colorful spaces for entertaining. Mauve and lilac can subdue the energy in a three house which can at times become boisterous and intense. In its best incarnation a three house is a happy, creative environment that attracts visitors. In its negative aspect it is loud and its tenants are reckless and extravagant. Three houses can be very lucky. Best for destiny numbers 1, 3, or 5. Owners of a number three house often over-improve or clutter the property with too much stuff.
The Number Four House. Four is the number of order and security. A four house will be tidy and secure, a safe haven for positive tenants. When the energy of a four house goes negative, it looks and feels unwelcoming and unkempt, like the occupants are trying to shut the world out. Subdued colors like grays and muted blues fit this house best. Lots of indoor plants enhance the earthy elements associated with the number four. This house is most compatible with destiny numbers 4, 7, or 8. A four house is conventional and supportive, not trendy. Structural problems can be an issue.
The Number Five House. Five is the number of change and strife. Often an address that reduces to five has many tenants that come and go, and/or is always changing ownership. If a single tenant stays for many years, there will be much strife associated with the place, or just constant renovation and redecorating. The positive energy of a five house creates new challenges and reduces inhibitions in its tenants. Negative energy provokes constant fighting and lack of self-control. People who settle in a five home often do not spend lots of time there, and those who do frequently find they're ready to sell within a few years. The most compatible destiny numbers for a five house are 1, 3, and 5.
The Number Six House. Almost everybody benefits from a number six house. Six houses tend to be loving, harmonious, and aesthetically lovely and calm. Many six houses have rose gardens, and large families will be happy here. Few negatives accompany six house energy, but sometimes neighbors can become jealous and intrude too often. (It's hard to stay away from a six environment.) Destiny numbers 2, 3, 4, 6, and 9 will be happiest in a six house, but really, almost anybody can live happily in a six house. Six houses benefit from music, so a piano, a good sound system, or wind chimes enhance the good vibes.
The Number Seven House. Seven is the number of the mystic and the philosopher. Seven houses likewise tend to be quiet, reclusive places that are surrounded by an aura of calm and mystery. If a seven house is located on a busy street, you might not even notice it. It may sit behind a high wall or deep at the back of a quiet lot, or simply blend in with its surroundings. A seven house is often located near water or includes a pond or water feature on the grounds. Positive vibes encourage intuition, insight, and even psychic ability in tenants. Negative vibes encourage secretiveness and social withdrawal. Seven houses are prone to plumbing problems. Best for destiny numbers 7 or 9.
The Number Eight House. Eight is a number of extremes and hard work. Eight houses best enhance the energy of business people and people who are focused and driven. Eight houses tend to be solid and conventional; neat and in good repair. This is the house with the manicured lawn. Colors schemes of gray and blue or moss green and cream suit and eight house well. Negative tenants can find themselves going to behavioral extremes in an eight house, working all the time or obsessing about the landscaping to the detriment of everyone's sanity. Positive tenants will be see many material benefits and great business success. Destiny numbers 1, 4, and 8 do best in an eight house.
The Number Nine House. A number nine house encourages spiritual and humanitarian growth in positive tenants, and even psychic development. Nine is the number of completion and is also associated with social action for good causes, so older people and idealists are both attracted to nine houses and can thrive in them. People in the medical and helping professions are often drawn to nine houses. Nine houses are enhanced by lush perennial gardens and lots of flowering spring bulbs. Negative tenants can become sanctimonious and judgmental of others. Best for destiny numbers 2, 6, or 9.

Thanks Sufi. If you hadn't commented, I might not have found this hub. Interesting one Pam. Most of my homes, (and I've lived in quite a few) house numbers were 7 related. Your "profile" of the number is pretty close in describing me (and my wife). Cute. I like it. See you round. :)
Have you checked out Ms.Palin's scores, sorry destiny?
He-He - Mystic aka-dj! The new avatar certainly fits your image as a calm philosopher :)
Hope that the plumbing is OK :D
Do you mean MY plumbing, or my HOUSE? LOL.
Actually, the truth is we did have plumbing problems in (probably all) many of them. I can't really remember every house now. Thanks for the "avatar feedback". Did the artwork myself. :)
Ok, this is so strange, but I've been working out all the places I've lived, and the numbers are bizarrely accurate in terms of what they were like and what their purpose was, or what my circumstances were at the time. . . .
Hi guys :)
Don't know about Palin's numbers, but Alaska is the 50th state, which makes it a 5, so that totally fits.
Sufi--Who needs a house number in paradise? lol! Seriously, sounds like a 7 to me too. And yeah, I'm taking a break from politics. Just got in at examiner.com as a paranormal writer for the Grand Rapids/West Michigan area. As soon as I get my link, I'll post it in my profile. I need an outlet that's totally fun, not financial crap. :)
aka-dj--It's weird isn't it? I think I have a touch of OCD or something because since getting into this I compulsively reduce house numbers. I can't NOT do it. We live in a 9. Nice place. We're pretty happy. My last house was a 3.
PS, MY plumbing is good! LOL :D
Hi Teresa--I also find that to be true for me, and yeah, it's bizarre. I have a theory on why this works out this way and it pretty much applies to all divination, but I'm apparently on of the few people on earth who cares why it works or what my theory is. I used to this little disclaimer before every tarot reading explaining it until I realized no one cared. They were all like, yeah, yeah, yeah whatever, can we talk about me please??? LOL! But I agree, I think there is something to it and I do feel like I know why.
Thanks. My house in a five with or without adding in the postcode :( I see from your birthday you are just into Aries Hmm. Interesting hub.
Hi ethel--Yes I'm right on the cusp of Aries. So guess I rush into things but forget what they are and what I'm doing there shortly afterward. LOL!
Hi Pam, how bizarre! I grew up (one of six children) in a number 6 house full of music (we'd two pianos) and hubbub and fun. I left there to live in a number 8 house, my first marital home. I'd no kids then, and the focus was on 'getting on in the world'. The next house was a number 5. i was there ten years, and after splitting with my first husband I was obliged to find an ever changing succession of lodgers to help pay the bills. Later I moved to a number 4 house with my now husband and new baby. That was a peaceful, tranquil interlude. Now I live in a number 3 house, and we've a constant parade of our friends, the kids friends, neighbours, relatives etc etc, and the walls are hung with a fine selection of mine and the kids dodgy paintings, and clutter abounds! So, very accurate on my account at least!
Very interesting, I seem to have lived in the wrong house all my life, no wonder I get nowhere fast lol
Hi Amanda--That's pretty cool! It fits me too, more or less. I grew up in a 5 house--lots and lots of changes and strife. Moved out at 18 and lived in a 3 house with a bunch of other student/waitresses and worked my way through college, very convivial and fun. Raised my kids in a 6 house. Divorced in a 8 with from a guy who went to extremes all the time and was driven and intolerant. Lived in a 3 again while gettting back on my feet, met Bill, and now we are hippie geezers together in a 9 on an acre with lots of flowers, fruit trees, and a huge vegetable garden.
Hawkesdream--Don't feel too discouraged! I too am always at the bus station when my ship comes in. :)
This is an interesting Hub, thanks for all the detail. I don't fit well into Western astrology, but do better with Chinese astrology. So all these categorizations tend to work much better when applied to external, environmental factors than as predictions of how I'll behave. I think that's for cultural reasons, since I broke away from the Judeo-Christian tradition so early in life and wound up acculturating to a very personal worldview that came from many Eastern sources as well as Western.
Numerology is something that I think is rooted in the Qabalistic tradition. I ran into it in depth in a number of qabala books when I was studying ceremonial magick in my twenties. I think that the patterns it describes are there in cultural patterns.
Every divination system imposes a set of cultural filters on randomness, but randomness isn't really that random. It's just so complex as to be incomprehensible, the chaos mathematicians keep coming up with ways that chaotic systems become predictable. I haven't really stopped to sort out the number for every house I lived in, but now you have me curious to see if this correlates well with how much trouble I had in various living situations.
I wound up with a five for my birth date which does well reflect how much trouble I had in life, especially when I was young.
Correct me. We live at 38, so we have a #2 house?
Hi robert--I think you are right that systems of divination impose cultural content to some extent and some will fit better than others for any given individual. I always feel this way about feng shui. When I got divorced I thought I would become a feng shui practitioner. There's a major school near where I lived, and I though, cool. Feng shui seemed like an insanely good gig to me. Dress in lots of gauze and big earrings, go to the homes of the uber-rich and say, "Move your couch over THERE. That will be $500 please." But when I got into it, I realized I was all out of my depth. So much of Chinese culture in that, that even a Chinese master can spend a lifetime absorbing that dense system.
I think at its best divination connects a person to a network of meanings, some of which will be cultural of course, but some universal. It depends how deep you want to go with it. It's a way of placing oneself within a larger story, a system of meaning, a fabric of interwoven threads that connect us each to the other and all to the created world. Have I put you to sleep yet? LOL!
Tom--Yes that would be correct. 3 +8 = 11 and 1 + 1 = two. However, you should know that two numbers that are the exception to the single number rule are 11 and 22. (Of course, all 2's are going to be a reduction of 1 and 1, duh...) The thing is, if you end up with 11 as a recurring theme, or 2s, 11s, 22s, there's a spiritual dimension added to the personal one contained in 2.
TMI? Sorry! Have a great day. :)
This is so good. My house is a four house, and I have always thought of it as my safe haven. I moved here with my children when I left my abusive husband. Synchronicity at its best!
Glad you enjoyed it advisor4qb! :)
I once upon a time visited Southern India, where a number of people actually make a living with this numerology !! Your hub reminds me of it !!!
Great hub :)
Love this hub!!! Mine is an 8 house. I am a total workaholic and I work from home, so I guess this house suits me just fine. And my Destiny number is a 1. How perfect is that???
Thank you for the explanation, PG. That explains my life there is so complicated!
Now that is interesting our home is a 7 and what you wrote is mysteriusly true. I am bookmarking this it is quite fun.:)
Very interesting and right on! I now live in a 1 house and will be moving to our new home in November---an 8 house. Both are a match for all who live within....
Hi imaginonic--Wow, that's cool. It would be fun to do this for a living. I'd feel kind of weird about it, but it would be way fun!
lrohner--That's cool! I'm glad it worked out for you. :)
Tom--I'm a bit complicated myself, so I hear ya.
AEvans--It's kind of eerie how this stuff seems to be fairly accurate. I'm a seven and my partner is an 8 and it fits us both pretty well too.
Nancy--Sounds good, Good luck with your move!
This was very interesting especially since my hubby and I live in a 9 and I am a 9 and he is a 6. I love numerology just wish I knew more about it.
Hi Triplet Mom--Thank you for sharing that! It's fascinating hearing from HP folks about whether this stuff fits or not. :)
When I was selling real estate in Williamsburg VA, I lost a $3,500,000 sale (would have been like a years salary on that commission) to a Hong Kong couple, because the number was bad. I tried like the devil to get the house number legally changed. Every one but the emergency services dispatch would allow me to have changed it. Ahhh well. I tried. Damned #'s. (he laughed silently to himself)
Hi Paper Moon--Sorry about that sale, or I just more accurately, non-sale (reducing $3,500,000 to 8 which is the number of hard work and extremes...) I always thought selling real estate might be fun... until I talk with people who have done it! :)
Fun stuff.
I've bookmarked this - fascinating stuff. Thank you Pam, love it. :)
Thank you Mark! I'm honored that you came to call. :)
How amazing, I didn't know this. I've a number one house and I'm independent and strong minded, or is it pigheaded? Not interested in a fire though. I might sell and get a 7 or 9.
Jewels--A one house is definitely SO you! I'm in a 9 and i works. My destiny number is 3, and my happiest houses were a 3, a 6, and a 9. Go figure!
Well, I'm off to South Bend to take my son to lunch. His birthday is 7-18-1986 so he's a four currenly living in a 5 apartment (just broke up with his girlfriend).
Toodles! :)
I love when you speak in numbers Pam, has this strange effect on me. LOL.
Well, the theory barely fits either of us and our house numbers. Maybe that is why Pat could never remember the number of Tricia's house (and vice versa). This didn't much matter regarding Pat's house, as she lives in a short road where all the houses are differnt.
Tricia lives on a long road, with all the houses built at the same time, by the same house builder. She used to have a holly tree in her front garden, but then cut it down.
Pat could no longer identify Tricia's house! At first she took the removal of the tree as a personal slight!
But other people had the same problem, and eventually Tricia's Wonderful Husband planted another holly tree.
No idea what any of that means, except that possibly Tricia lives in the wrong house and Pat has very poor spatial ability.
What a fun Hub! We are house 3! Its fitting too!
I think I'd better move.
Jewels--lol! :)
2patricias--Well, nobody can bat 1000, but I hope it at least was entertaining. BTW I also have very poor spatial ability! lol!
mellasviews and kephira--Thanks for stopping by! :)
So, the house I grew up in was a 4 and the house I live in now is a 4 and my destiny number is a 3. Seems like I've been in the wrong place for a long time. Also my first job in this city was a 4 too....hmmm or can you use the same method for work places too?
Anywho, cool hub how do you know so much?
You are amazing!
Thanks JennyRose--I think if you are happy you're never in the wrong place! :)
It's just for fun, glad you enjoyed it!
This is very interesting. My house is a 7, and I recently had to replace the water heater. My destiny number is 6. What do the destiny numbers mean?
Hi Trish,
The destiny number is kind of your life path--basic stuff about your personal inclinations, talents, challenges, and so forth. I'll have to come back and write a hub on those numbers too. :)
Thanks for asking!
Amusing. Your post is intriguing, to say the least. I'm wondering about my own house right now. :D
I wonder if house numbers can lead one to decide to buy it?
Hi property auction--In some countries and cultures it matters a lot. I think for Americans, not so much. Thanks for reading and commenting!
This is fascinating! According to numerology, I live in a 5th house. The description for a 5th house is on point! Purely fascinating, I enjoyed this very much. Thank you for writing on this topic.
Yayyy great hub , Pam I added our apartment number as well (hope that was right) which made it house 4-safe n tidy for positive tennants , unkept an unwelcoming for negative people, it is safe and functions so suits its number perfectly!
Im a 3 and its wierd though , hubby said weve been here 4 mths now ,dont you wanna hang your pictures n stuff , n i said nahh , it doesnt feel like my home. He on the other hand is a 7 ( he just doesnt get the kitchen and front door are totally in the wrong place!!) lol...however we both are looking forward to moving in the near future.
Hi am I dead yet--glad you enjoyed it. ;)
Hi eaglekiwi--I was like that when we moved up here. It took me months to feel like I was really home. Four is a good place! :)
Thanks! Fascinating stuff :)
Thanks Trish! :)
How interesting! I am a 3, my house is a 1. We bought the house for me to run a business out of. The smoke alarms have gone off so many times without any trace of fire that we finally replaced them all last year, just to avoid becoming immune to the sound of them.
Christa that is wild Love your avatar by the way. :)
I know there is something to this. I lived in a nine house for about six months and had a kind of a spiritual experience there.I was only 11 and one day I was in the back yard on my way up to the upper flat when I noticed a group of about four or five boys that I would swear were identical twins. It scared the you know what out of me.My hair stood up on my whole body.It never happened since we moved out of there The address was 1044.I don't recall what the lower flats number was either 1043 or 1045 I think.I don't recall how they number them
Hi someonewhoknows--I think there is something to it too. I'm a big fan of divination in general and have spent way to much time thinking about all of it. It sounds like you experienced some ghosts there in your 9 house. Thanks for sharing that. I'm glad you enjoyed the hub. :)
Wow great hub and very fascinating, I am in a number five home at the moment and all that you say is so very accurate. I have been here for nine years and although I love my home, I really have had this overwhelming feeling lately that I need to move from here, perhaps it stems from the first time that I have spent alot of time at home and not out at work.
My destiny number is a seven and my house is a seven. a perfect fit right??
Hi zaina--Yes, a 5 house would definitely not be the ideal place to hang out all day, no wonder you feel restless. Good luck and thanks for commenting~
Ms Chievous--Sounds perfect to me! Thank for dropping by. :)
Yes its true..but my house number doesnt fit our identity maybe because we rented the house...but anyway thanks for the idea that you have about the numbering of the house..
Thank you for reading my hub hammerj! :)
One thing for sure where ever you live ,be positive or you might end up in a number one house that goes up in smoke!
I love numerology, I live in a number 3 house and I'm a number 8 destiny... the irony is that my home is designed for creativity (as explained above) and my work is highly creative... great hub!
jerrico
Hi someonewhoknows--Good advice in any house! (And smoke alarms aren't a bad idea either!)
jerrico--Sounds like a dynamic combo alright! Glad you enjoyed the hub. :)
This is strange, but mostly correct for all the homes ive lived in.
Hi Jaymo--Thanks for reading it. Glad it worked out. :)
I enjoyed your hub, my destiny number turned out to be 10? strange huh I always thought it would be an odd number, somewhere between 1-5. Me and my family could possibly fit the description for our number nine house. You have got me intrigued in this numerology, it's a change from astrology- and I know we all can't stand that anymore.
Thanks readysetgo! 10 actually would be 1 + 0 = 1, so you would be a 1. One and nine, that's a nice combo. :)
Glad you enjoyed the hub.
This is fascinating. Thanks for sharing!
This should work for places of business as well to some extent.
I love numerology, and it was one of the first subjects I wrote about when joining Hubpages. Just did the numbers, and I live in a 9 house, and it fits us PERFECTLY. Phil went on a spiritual retreat in this house, which is away from most of the world. And... there are friendly orbs here. :)
Hi VioletSun--I remember that hub! We live in a 9 house too--another thing you and I have in common! ;)
Great hub Pgrundy. Iam into astro and numerology. I liked the way you have described about the relation of numbers and houses. Cheers.
Thanks Jay!
Pretty cool hub!
This is great! I am OCD with numbers also and when I found numerology, I automatically reduced everything. Including my phone numbers. Destiny # is 3/22. My house is a 9. Will definitely bookmark this hub. Hope to see more of this. :)
Interesting topic. I live in a 4 house and much of your description fits. The subdued colors, all of the plants we have inside. Thankfully we don't have any structural issues. (Knock on wood).
Thanks for stopping by Almost Frugal. Glad to hear the info fit your place! :)
That was a fun exercise. Nice to think out of the box for awhile.
pgrundy (Pam ?),
Congratulations on a very well written article.
While so many people who write about numerology do so in such a sanctimonious manner, your article is like a breath of fresh air.
The opening paragraphs are especially eye catching because of their honesty.
I was compelled to keep reading even though I am a numerologist myself.
You have done newcomers to numerology a great favor.
Thanks Michael! That means a lot to me coming from a numerologist. Thanks for stopping by. :)
This is really cool I have never read about numerology before. I never even knew it existed until just now, thanks for bringing it to my attention!
i'm a 7 and live in a 4 flat, but hate it here. too lonely. i'm a musician and need to be as creative as i can. what is the best house no. for me? i'm considering a three, but apparently it doesn't fit with my number. please help.
I'd go with a 3 or a 7 flat if I were you, but I'm not you, so I can only guess based on your number. Good luck!
Fascinating. Does it mean anything that my favorite number is eleven-eleven? I consider it lucky and everyone knows to call it out for me when the clock hits 11:11.
It means you are very in tune with your spiritual side. I wake up often in the middle of the night at exactly 3:33. I always thought that was weird.

Great Hub, Pam - it must be nice for you to take a break from the heavy duty political stuff! Sadly, we do not have a house number, so have no idea exactly what type it is. It is probably a number seven - there is a mystical air, and the plumbing is bloody awful :D
