The no-no question...

What about socialization? I've heard this question more often than I care for, and I've said it in one of my other posts, it is the ultimate no-no question for every homeschooler. The truth is, unless you live out in the boonies, or you are nocturnal vampire, socialization is not a question you need to ask. Rather it is, how to cut down the many groups and events and coops to a reasonable amount.

Homeschoolers, believe it or not, are highly sociable people with *gasp* highlly developed social skills. The internet has made it possible for us to stay connected with like minded people in our area and across the globe.

Check out such sites as www.meetup.com or www.yahoogroups.com or simply google for local homeschooling support groups, and you will be surpised at the abundance of groups out there. From Classical, to Eclectic, to Unschoolers, they are all there, and they are all happy to meet you.

Girl Scout and Boy Scouts have troops specifically for homeschooled children. Also check out the Campfire groups.

Most towns have some sort of teaching coop, in which parents come together and teach a subject to their children. You may also find homeschool park days.

The possibilities are endless. Don't hesitate, put yourself out there, and you'll be amazed at how quickly you'll find someone in your area, who shares your passion for homeschooling.

Well said. Socialization is plenty available, even for those in the boonies -- as I know from growing up. Plus, those who are socially awkward would be awkward in a public school too. They are the ones most likely to suffer depression, and become trouble makers.
