Many Internet sites sell or give away products (ebooks, text files, software, graphics, php scripts and other downloadable digital products). Typically if you get the product free, you'll have to join their mailing list. Of course you can opt out anytime later.

Most reputable people will do a double opt in which means you'll get an email from their auto responder, you'll have to click on a link so they can proactively make sure that it was you who opted in - not some one else who accidentally or on purpose used your email.

Often, you get the product for you own use only. However, at times you get various other rights with the product whether bought or given away as a ethical bribe.

If you have other rights they must be displayed in a text or pdf file. These are the typical rights you can get - my comments in bold:

Product: Product Name - very important you must have the right licence terms for the product you download. So always check this line.

Note: Please pass on this license document, without any alteration, to your customers if you are reselling the Private Label Rights or Master Resale Rights to this product. You may ignore this instruction if you are only selling the product without its Private Label Rights or Master Resale Rights. - OK this is important clue you can use the product for yourself, sell it, or sell the PLR or MRR rights with the product.

My notes: The above product was sold with all the rights you could possibly get. Often the original rights owner will not allow you to give it away free or put it on auction sites in order not to lower its value. so last two lines would have been:

[No] Can be given away for free (any format).
[No] Can be offered through on any auction sites.

The main point is that in a true PLR you are getting the right to reuse the content however you desire and can rewrite it as much or as little as you want and call it your own.

You can use it as a starting point for your article, Hub, blog post or anything else....

MRR stands for master resell rights. The difference is that you may resell the product as is but are not allowed to use the content or claim it as your own. Here is a typical MMR set of rights:

[YES] Can sell Master Resale Rights

You could also get the resell rights (RR) there you can resell the product but cannot allow your buyer to resell your product. So in terms of the rights you get from most to least we have:

1. PLR - basically can do more or less anything you desire.
2. MRR - can resell and allow your buyer to resell.
3. RR - can resell but your buyer only gets user rights.
4. User - what it means you get the licence to use the product for yourself.

You still need to read your licence file to understand exactly what rights you have since some people advertise PLR and are giving you some rights between PLR and MRR. Also the user rights can be different. For example you may get single site right for a script, or you may be allowed to use the script on all your own domains but not on those you develop for others or develop first and then sell to another.

I'll later both demonstrate the use of PLR materials, and write a Hub about how best use PLR materials and give away some free PLRs (on my new website - I have to prepare it first) as part of the 100 Hubs in 30 days challenge.

The most important thing for now is that it is best to alter the elements of the PLR (add value) before reselling and if you use them as a starting point o witing do that and only that (that's to say rewrite like you would to your own content)
