When considering the needs essential to a civilized society my thoughts span far beyond my Blackberry and into the basic needs of humans.  Can we even call our society civilized when we gun one another down?  To me, it is a simple answer of respecting one another and opening ourselves to embrace diversity throughout the world.  We should begin by appreciating human life and assigning dignity as a need.  Really, how loudly do we scream civilized society when we need to see the consequences of war and torture in gory, high definition splendor.  We are certainly industrialized but how civilized we are relies on each of us as persons and the nature in which we treat one another, that is the most essential backbone to any civilized society.
