What are some morals that are essential for a civilized society?

Respect! It used to be taught in schools and at home. Remember the phrase "Respect your elders"? We don't hear that anymore, nor do we see it. As a society, when self service supercedes respect for others, society declines.
Not crossing anothers property.
Not cutting off someone in traffic.
Holding the door for someone.
Offering someone your seat.
...and the list goes on and on. Basically the Golden rule, "DO UNTO OTHERS AS YOU'D HAVE THEM DO UNTO YOU". What that boils down to is respect for others.
Tomorrow (or later today) hold the door for someone, don't race to take the spot in line, say HI to the cashier and use their name (they usually have tags). Guage the reaction you get. Make a conscience effort to be respectful of others. Nothing overboard, just little things. Treat everyone the way you would like to be. Especially if you've had a bad day. The person you are nice to might be having one too.If you think about making them happy, might improve your day as well. They might in turn be nice to another, and them another.... next thing you know we have people being nice to each other, then what kind of mess would we have? :)

I agree. Alot of parents do not take an active role in raising their children. They send them to day care and then to school and then to their friends. They learn values from those they are around. If this happens to be video games, the children grow up thinking there is a reset button and consequences don't matter. When our daughter was young and we would tell her "That was rude." she would start crying. It is the parents responsablility to pass down the values they learned. I think this is the 1st generation that hasn't had the values passed down from the previous generation and it shows.
Parents are afraid to loose love from their kids so it's for that they say yes for everything but like that children have no limit and no respect for parents and others people.
If the evolution of the children are like that it's because of the society where everything is faster than before so parents have no time to do what they wants and they leave the children doing whatever they want to do.
children are taking a lot of energy so when you go back after work you just give up the education because to tired. they leave them playing video game, watch TV all the time.
Now parents are making lazy kids without respect and more...
