Working from Home

When wanting to work from home you need to decide what it is that you are good at. Can you write? Are you good at design?

Many people work from home on a regular basis as web designer's and freelance writers. One way to start as a freelance writer is to work for free for your local free publication. Realize that all publications really make their money on selling advertizing. When an advertiser backs out at the last second they are left scrambling for a way to fill the spot. This happens way more regularly than one would think. If you can get to know their publishing schedule then submit your small free articles a few days before the publication deadline. This ensures that you are fresh in their memory. If they are able to use your work for free a time or two they will start to remember how easy your were to work with and be more likely to call you in the future for paid work.

Another way to make money writing is to write for hubpages. Here we have a community of bloggers that write and make some money doing it. Some of us make more that others but it is a revenue stream that adds to the others that you already have. Think if you get one paid article a month from the local publications plus the revenue generated from Hubpages plus... you have a decent monthly income, some of it with no extra work like you old hub's.

If you are a visually creative type then maybe becoming a webdesigner is the right way for you to go. As a web designer you will be able to work from home designing web pages. Even if you are employed by a web company many will offer the opportunity to work from home on at least a part time basis.

Really it depends on how much time you are willing to put into it. It may be a good idea to make a plan to be employed at home over the course of a year rather than trying to do it in one shot. Again it depends on your commitment level.
