Well, you might think that you can do what Mr. Gellar did in Friends when he put Monica’s boxes in the garage to keep the water away from the Porsche. But that will not solve your problem. You might think that getting your basement waterproofed is an expensive feat that you do not want to pay for, but you will be doing more harm than good in this way.

Insurance policies often do not cover leaks due to basement tanking, and if you are living in an area that floods like the river Nile, you will have to pay for the damage yourself. You must try to get the entire insurance cover, and for that you have to take pictures of your rooms before and after the flooding so that you have sufficient proof to get financial aid.

There could be nothing worse than a leaky basement during rainy seasons. However, there are waterproofing solutions for your basement, and remember them well:

  1. Do not keep your insurance policies and the other important records and documents in the basement when it floods. Keep them all in a safe, dry location. Do not even think about keeping your valuable in here.
  2. You have to use concrete waterproofing for preventing the leakage of water and seepage into the structure. This is basically used to fill up holes and cracks in the walls. Here, the main ingredient used is crystalline that can seep deep into the concrete. It closes up the fissures and wraps up the humidity in the concrete.
  3. The main composition of the concrete waterproofing contains a mixture of waterless powder of Portland cement with refined silica sand along with some important chemicals.
  4. When the crystalline mixture is applied to the cracks, a catalytic reaction takes place where the substance forms a few inches thick non-soluble crystalline fibers that closes up the holes. It even covers up the capillary tracts of the concrete. This provides a perfect armor where further infiltration of water beads into the walls is avoided. Your basement will stay as dry as an autumn leaf.

Earlier, concrete waterproofing was mainly used on buildings and all the industrial frameworks. But now, this method is easy to be used on your house as well, so it can be applied to your residential area too.
