What are the best ways to draw people to your hubs?
73Write A Good Benefit Oriented Headline
The first and only thing people see is your headline in the search results. Most people may not read past the headline or past the first paragraph. So write a clear descriptive headline.
The headline should make a promise on what your hub is going to do for them. It should communicate to the reader the way in which their life becomes better after reading the headline. I mean the benefit of reading your hub.
Copy Headline Templates
There are a few people making a living just how to crafting great headlines whether or not their content is good. These are the magazines like Cosmopolitan and the like. Go to their websites or if you have any lying around. You don't have to feel bad about copying their ideas. Best way to learn an artform is by first learning to copy it.
To go indepth about the subject of good headlines go here:
Choose An In-Demand Topic
Is the topic you choose of interest to anyone other than yourself? That is the reason to go look at the requests area (which is why i wrote this hub).
I first tried to make a encyclopedic hubpage on a computer game called half life. It didn't get a whole lot of traffic. To be honest it still hasn't gotten more than a double digit number of hits. Which is still less than 50. It was a awfully huge hub and did take a long time to put together.
Where do you find topics that get a lot of attention?
There are many places to find what people are looking for. I mean literally looking for. Go to google trends:
And see what are people really looking for at the search engines. Google trends shows what is really on people's mind at the moment.
Go to boardtracker:
See the tag-cloud prominently show the hotly debated topics in big letters in major forums around the web.
See what is the hottest video at Youtube or the most viewed document at Scribd, or picture at Flickr and post about those things.
Write really useful content
Take the effort to write really useful content for people to actually read and benefit from. Remember you want to make the reader's time worthwhile. Don't chit chat on the article.
Places to look for content to write on your topic:
1. Google blog search2. Boardtracker thread search3. Google's PDF file search (use [your topic here] filetype:pdf)4. News5. Ezinearticles.comHowever, you are allowed the occasional humor on the hub.
Format Your Content Properly
Make Articles Skimmer Friendly
People on the web skinm pages. So in order to signal to them that the benefit they seek is in your article, make it skimmer friendly. Divide your article into sub-headings and paragraphs for easy reading. I should be able to understand what is in the article when I read your headings.
Add Pictures
Add some really good pictures right next to your text. You can get great pictures at Flickr. Make sure you attribute the image to the copyright owner.
Add Video
Add any relevant video and other media you can find on the topic from youtube or any other video sites that Hubpages support. Don't restrict yourself to Youtube and fine videos using Google video search.
Get the word out on your hub
Get the word out to people about your hub. This can be done in a few simple steps.
1. post your hub at del.icio.us
2. submit your hub to digg
3. submit your hub to reddit
4. submit it to any other social bookmarking site you might know.
5. link to it from your blog if you have one
6. Ask another hubber to link to you in return for a link to their hub. Make sure both of your hubs are related and your content relevant.
In all make sure you put your hubpage before the proper audience. That is, wherever relevant file the hub under the proper category. A bunch of computer programmers wouldn't care about a hub on bonzai gardening much.
Get Comments On The Hub
Here's how to get more comments on the topic:
1. Don't give out everything there is to know about the topic. Some people are pretty knowledgeable and would want to add something to what you have written.
2. End the hub asking a question just above the comment capsule.
