Since last 30 years I am trying to learn this term COMMUNICATION. I am a writer and communicator. I have done communications for people using various forms like streetplay, dramas, TV scripts, Film scripts, one to one talk, and so on.

As a communicator what are my tools? And what I believe about communication? What is called best communication?

These questions are related with the main question because without getting all such we can not reach real perspectives for the answer! But here i want to turn round the table this way!

I would like to reframe this question like this:

What are the disadvantage the person will face if s/he is lacking, what we call, communication skill?

Well, I have included the words what we call, because to understand any kind of communication is more important rather than what we call communication! What ever and in what ever manner, some thing is expressed has the value of communication: Whether the communication has used words or silence or symbols or signs or sounds! It means lacking of understanding the communication is key, not lacking of communication skill!

Let me put a small example here: As a poor farmer I come to ask that I am going to get the benefit of flood affected farmer, come under government announcement? And just show the page of the news paper in which the anouncement is declared! I am not uttering a word!

What will you say? Have i communicated what I wanted to say or not? And why?

If you have not got what I tried to express through my body language, showing the news paper clip; then it is not my fault but your! Because you are unable to get me! I have expressed with my own skill but you are not able to grasp that!

Did you get what I want say? We have developed the defination of communication for our purpose and so as a professional we are lacking how to understand a communication expressed to us, in front of us!

Now let us start to understand communication in this perspective! I mean this!

Interesting hub! Communication is a big focus for me as I am hearing impaired, meaning, I am not  totally deaf, do not use sign language, but read lips. I rely on body language, facial expressions and my ability to sense the energy of the person, to compensate for a diminished sense; it often helps me to "hear" what is being expressed.  However,  sometimes the words do not match the body language and I am aware of this.

I find communication takes more than verbal skills, it involves an ability to connect.
