My Ipod is one of my favorite possessions. I think the best thing I ever did two years ago was to invest in a 40GB Ipod...black. It holds every CD I own and many of the songs on it have come from online sources. It holds as many podcasts as I wish and now I can even purchase movies for it.

My music collection is eclectic, to say the least. I have everything from the Beatles to George Gershwin; CCR to The Killers; The Smiths to the Archies; Billie Holiday to KT Tunstall.

Here are a few of the songs on my Ipod that best fit in with the title of this hub, all of which I also managed to find on Amazon:

Puttin' On The Ritz Puttin' On The Ritz
Price: $0.99

Puttin' on the Ritz

When Young Frankenstein first came out my friend and I sat in the theatre and watched 3 showings in a row. You could do that in those days. We thought it was the best thing we had seen and even today it's still one of my favorite films.

One of the best parts of the film is when Gene Wilder and Peter Boyle are performing Puttin' on the Ritz on stage. I found this MP3 on a music blog that I visit often; I crack up every time I hear it.

The version you can buy at Amazon is not the same version, but the original Broadway cast version.

When Pigs Fly

When Pigs Fly is a compilation album by various artists of cover versions. It features people you don't expect covering songs you can't believe.

My two favorite songs from the album are Shock the Monkey, sung by Don Ho and Secret Agent Man. sung by Mel Torme. I got these when I signed up for a test drive of an online MP3 site. The whole album is a hoot. Another cover I like is Ohio, sung by Devo.

Cheek To Cheek Cheek To Cheek
Price: $0.89

Cheek to Cheek

I don't think this exactly fits the category of weird.

Fred Astaire was one of the greatest dancers on film, he was not one of the best singers. But, he did a credible job. This song, Cheek to Cheek, was written by Irving Berlin and was performed in the film Top Hat.

What I find amusing about this song is that halfway through you hear Fred tap dancing.

Pink Elephants on Parade

One of my favorite Disney films is Fantasia. I love the blend of animation and classical music.

I remember taking my nieces to see the film when they were very young. They enjoyed it but were scared by the alligators. They did enjoy the dancing elephants though.

Pink Elephants on Parade is a lively, entertaining memory. The MP3 from Amazon is performed by a different orchestra than the one on my Ipod.

Non Nobis Domine

Kenneth Branagh's first film was Henry V. It was the first Shakespeare film since 1968's Romeo and Juliet that really captured my imagination; it sparked an interest in Shakespeare that hasn't waned yet.

Patrick Doyle has written the soundtrack for many of Kenneth Branagh's films. This one is very touching to me. King Henry is carrying the body of a young boy killed in battle across the field while this song is being sung by a character played by Patrick Doyle. It never fails to bring me to tears.

The end

There you have it. The weirdest songs on my Ipod. I don't think they are necessarity weird. Possibly more obscure or eclectic than weird.

Maybe next I'll write a hub on the most embarrassing songs on my Ipod...there are a lot.

A person's choice of music says so much about her, don't you think? Such a wide and eclectic variety says you must be a very interesting person indeed, and invited rather than otherwise.

Enjoyed it, girlfriend.

I would love to get the "When Pigs Fly" disc. Have you ever heard "Richard Cheese & Lounge Against the Machine"? If not, you're gonna love it! It's this guy who does metal songs lounge-style. Check this out:

Haha. thanks for answering my request! I got to admit these are some weird songs. I haven't heard of any of them. My favorite song, is probably the wierdest song I have on my white 30GB video Ipod, it is called "I Kissed A Girl" by Katy Perry. Best song you will ever hear! It is wierd because it is a girl singing about kissing another girl. I love it. No, I am not a lesbian, but it is funny and has a great beat. thanks again for sharing.

Tayler!

I can totally relate to your love-of-all-things-Ipod. I bought one several years ago, upgraded once or twice and am doing everything in my power not to acquire an iphone, itouch, or anything other than the 30gb Ipod I already have. I have a bit of everything on my Ipod. More than wierd songs, I collect wierd (unusual) artists. I particularly like world music. My latest unusual artists are Eden's Bridge (they do Celtic Christian music, if you can imagine such a thing), Alberto Turco & Nova Schola Gregoriana (Gregorian chants), African Drums and Soukouss (African drum beats), David & Steve Gordon (Native American chants) and a find (at least one for me), Israel Kamakawiwo'ole (a Hawaiian artist), whose voice you would immediately recognize if you listened to his remake of Somewhere Over the Rainbow. Here's a link to his Youtube Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2A2Jt4WOxN8.

But there are so many podcasts to listen to. I end up listening more often to podcasts than music most days.

I agree Uninvited Writer - podcasts are great! Rochelle - podcasts are free(!) audio or videos of your favorite radio programs, commentary on various tv programs, news programs, language programs and on and on. I enjoy having access to NPR's radio line-up, NBC news programs and BBC programming. I particularly love the Podrunner music program (a free hour of good workout music) and This American Life. The Ipod is not an accessory - it is a life enhancer!

Interesting group of tunage there.

BTW, Young Frankenstein on Broadway is phenomenal.

Puttin On The Ritz still brings down the house.

This music is so inspiring and fortifying. It is a magnificent Christian Hymn of old. It is not a wierd song, but a song of true jubilent thanksgiving to God, for all the glory we find in him alone. Carl

Golly 40 GB that's a super pod! My weirdest song in my MP3 is "Ritual Xul" by Lucifitias it is in the noise genre and sounds like brain flossing in a storm.

I like Putting on the Ritz!
