The fine art of knowing when to stick your nose in and when to butt out

Problems between people aren't too different from problems between countries. A lot of them stem from misunderstanding, ignorance, stubbornness, and the desire for a 'quick-fix.' Action before comprehension has resulted in a lot of unnecessary conflicts in human history.

Screw-ups happen. Fights happen. Anger is a natural response to a lot of things. However, there are many ways to control and vent your anger constructively. Type it in to Google to get some hints. This is a skill that we could all use! Another good skill to master is: The Apology. We are not always right -- a good apology is worth its weight in gold, and it forgives a lot more than just one stupid thing you did.

The old rules are not going to cut it anymore. In today's world we are faced with so many things that blow our conventions right out of the water -- the world is so connected that we can't rely on local tradition to tell us how to live anymore. I'm not saying this means we should have no rules, of course, nor should we have to give up parts of our identity that are tied to our traditions. Those are the things that make us individuals.

This is where compromise comes in. This century has the potential to be a great age of learning and understanding, provided that people are willing to accept that there are others who live well outside of their own scope, and rather than condemn them for it, make it work. it might be a lot easier than you think. You don't have to agree, and you don't have to like it... but don't knock it until you really do your research.

If you don't see these principles being exercised around you, it's better to accept than to nag. Unfortunately, we have to face facts. For example, you're probably not going to turn Grandma around. She's set on her convictions -- they have served her well her whole life. Accept that nothing will change unless people's minds change; instead, be the change yourself and maybe you will teach by example.
