Entertainment - Emulators
A simple way to increase the number of games available for your smartphone is to install an emulator, which allows access to all games from Nintendo, Super Nes Mega Drive or for which you can find the ROMs.
ROMs for the Mega-Drive, the best option is the Peak Drive, a freeware emulator for the S60 with good resources. In addition to running in the Nokia devices, it also rotates the models from Samsung and LG with the S60.
It can be downloaded in http://www.free-symbian.ic.cz/gm.html. On page versions exist for all three editions of S60.For current devices, is used to v3.
The main difficulty in running games for consoles in smartphones are the differences in the controls (as the positioning of the directional buttons and is found in the different joysticks, and varies according to the unit) and the appearance of the screen, since the most devices the screen in USA portrait mode and not in landscape mode, as used by the consoles.
The Pico Drive addresses these issues offering a lot of options. You can use the screen in portrait mode, stretched portrait, landscape, landscape inverted (tip of head) and so on. You can also configure the buttons freely, according to the unit.
In models of N series with dual slide (like the N95, for example), you can put the screen in landscape mode using the directional buttons and the slide. In an apparatus in a bar, as the 6120c, you could use the screen in portrait mode, using the keys 3, 6 and 9 as buttons, while in an E71 you could use the keys I, O and P, for example. This level of customization that makes it surprisingly usable. Another possibility is to use a Wiimote as a joystick (see tip below).
If the image is showing some games shifted to the left, disable the option "Configure Screen> Am surrender" in the preferences. You can also save the game at any point using the function Save / Load the main menu:
For games, Super Nes, we vSun available in http://www.vampent.com/. He is a commercial emulator, which costs $ 19.99, with a demo version that allows play for a few minutes each time.
Like Pico Drive, he is able to rotate both in portrait on landscape mode, but the detection is done automatically, without you the option to change according to the unit. The buttons are also configurable, but the fact of Super Nes use a control with 6 buttons complicates things a bit.
The ROMs should be placed inside the folder "C: \ Other \ vSun" or "C: \ DATA \ others \ vSun" (according to system version) to be detected. The menu of options, which is also hidden, is accessed (within the game) through the menu button on the left.
On the same page, you can also vNes, an emulator for the Nintendo 8 bit. As in vSun, you must copy the ROM to the folder "C: \ Other \ vNes" or "C: \ DATA \ others \ vNes" so they are detected by the emulator.
Another option for the Nes emulator commercial Ines is available in http://fms.komkon.org, which also has a version for Windows Mobile.
Using a Wiimote as a joystick
If you have a Wii, you probably want to know that you can use the Wiimote as a joystick on devices with the S60, just install the MobiPad, available at: http://www.mobi-pad.com
It solves a major obstacle to the use of emulators and games in general, it is good to use a joystick. The use could not be simpler. Simply press the sync button (or the buttons 1 and 2 simultaneously) in the Wiimote and use the "Options> Discover Wiimote" in MobiPad to find it in control.
If you improvise a support to the smartphone, it ends up being quite comfortable to use, since the control is more precise (and less prone to press the shortcut buttons by mistake) that when using directional:
If you have an N95 or other model with TV output, you can play using the Wiimote and the TV (as if using a console "the truth"), which is another interesting possibility. If you have an N96 and has the habit of using it to watch videos supported, you can also use the Wiimote as a remote control to control the player.
However, the most interesting possibility is to use the MobiPad with the Pico Drive and other emulators. For that, you simply adjust the buttons (in the emulator) to change the orientation of directional, so that you can use the control in horizontal:
The Wiimote works best for NES games, and Mega-Drive, which use only two or three buttons. You can also use it in matches of Super Nes (the control has a total of 6 buttons available: "A", "B", "1" "2", "+" and "-"), but in that case you will need to improvise, since the buttons are in positions very different from the control console.
