What do millionaires look like

We all want to be one, a £millionaire, but what does a real millionaire look like? Are they all like Jay Z and the superstar rappers, dripping in diamond chains, with Jacob & Co. watches? Highly conspicuous individuals who flaunt their wealth?

Not hardly. A survey released a year or so ago indicated that £millionaires were a quiet, fairly sedate breed, who made their money in ‘dull' or ‘normal' industries like construction, or haulage or programming or estate agents. Not exactly sexy, eh?

The report also indicated that most £millionaires were worth around £1.6m to £3million, and over 85% were 1st generation millionaires, meaning they had not inherited their wealth but accumulated it themselves.

The typical profile goes on to describe a 57 year old male, (I'm a little annoyed at that, but since over 90% are married I would say a fair proportion of their success is due to their wives), married and 2 out of 3 are self employed and consider themselves entrepreneurs.

They do not buy designer clothes, or expensive watches and jewellery. They have conservative spending habits and don't drive a latest model supercar. They own their own home and have lived there for 10-20 years, paying off the mortgage early.

So, do you see a millionaire when you look in the mirror, or are you more seduced by the flashy, high profile existence of the entertainment industry? Believe me, £3million would not go very far in that world, so if that's what you aspire to, look to be making tens of £millions.

If, on the other hand, you want to quietly accumulate wealth and earn your financial freedom, sacrifice your need for high social status for the ultimate goal of personal prosperity. I believe it's worth it.
