Science Meets The Paranormal
Ghost Hunters is a Sci-Fi channel reality television series that debuted in 2004. It features Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson, two men from Rhode Island who are plumbers by day and paranormal investigators by night. With the group they’ve founded (aka The Atlantic Paranormal Society or TAPS) they investigate suspected haunted areas and try to “debunk” them using specific tools (EMF scanners, infrared and night vision cameras and digital audio recorders to name a few) made to test “charged” areas.
What I like most about this show is that, unlike other ghost shows, they go in to the home, office, former prison, etc. with a scientific mindset, seeking the truth instead of seeking a good scare. They don’t expect to find anything which makes their findings all the more reliable when they do find something. They treat each case separately and with respect. You genuine believe that they care about the people who call them for help. When the problem is not paranormal, but structural, because of their “day jobs,” they are able to fix or, at the very least, recommend someone to help fix a problem. They are good guys with good intentions.
I understand that there is a related show called Ghost Hunters International. I have caught this show a couple of times and am not a fan. While the international team has, or supposedly has, the same mission to “debunk,” they lack Jason and Grant and the sensibility and integrity that these men bring on every assignment. In my opinion, the international team is only out for scares and ratings.
Unfortunately, I rarely get to watch Ghost Hunters anymore. I am never home when the show airs, but will catch it if I am and will certainly watch it if it’s randomly on. From time to time, I go to their section of the Sci-Fi website and watch clips. Being a fan of both the paranormal and historical sights, such a show as this is perfect for me. With all of the ghost shows that keep surfacing that rely upon cheap gags and mood music, it is good to know that Ghost Hunters is still going strong. Most Haunted should take a page from their book.

Here here! This is the only show I watch on network television ;)
Thanks for answering my request. I had no idea so many other people watched this show. It is by far my favorite show. You also pointed out the points of how honest they are. I believe I have the exact same opinion on Ghost Hunters and Ghost Hunters International. Thanks again for the hub. It was good.
My favorite line that is in every episode is "Did you hear that?". I use it at the house alot when I hear ghost like noises then look at my girlfriend and laugh.
Paul, that's hilarious. Thanks for the comment! :o)
I love Ghost Hunters! It's the only show I specifically make a point of being home to watch, lol...even the reruns!
I like GHI, too, but not quite as much as the original show...
Yay! Another fan of GH! Thanks for the comment, Tam. :o)
i to watch ghost hunters, just stumbled upon it one time watching the sci fi channel. im kind of disappointed lately though, jason and grant dont seem that into it anymore. i think its because they bought a hotel or bed and breakfast and are restoring it. they did an episode from tneir new place last year.
i hope that they keep the same enthusiasm they showed in the earlier seasons and dont get distracted by their new project.
i noticed to that sci fi has changed its name to syfy, i just hope that they dont become disneylandish to get more viewers. i liked sci fi the way it was. im a real sci fi fan and dont want to see pirates of the caribbean or national treasure on sci fi, i want to see the b movies and scary shows i like so much. take care.
Thanks for the info on Jason & Grant. I obviously need to watch this show more often. You take care too. :)
Once we discovered the show, we purchased back episodes to catch up. I only wish they would investigate with owners not in the building and maybe spend the whole night there. Otherwise, my husband and daughter and I love the show.
Great ideas. Thanks for you comment! :)
I love this show. I always watch it whenever it comes on.
It is very exciting and mysterious. I love the gagets they use on the show and seeing all the things that happens to them is very freaky......
Bernie, thanks for your comment. Those are some great reasons to like the show and I agree with you on them. :)
