The acronym above means - you can't do business sitting on your ass!

There is a very important point to this acronym. That we often spend much time pondering and planning when we should be acting and doing. So this statement has been used mostly to motivate those in sales to get out of their office so they are visiting potential clients.

The question is has the internet changed the wisdom of this acronym?

Some people may feel the reason you do not hear this acronym anymore is because today it is just not true. There is plenty of business that you can do without moving at all. As long as you are in front of a computer with internet access there is very little business that can not be done. From banking to communicating with vendors purchases from paper clips to supercomputers lmost everything can be accomplished with the click of a mouse.

Perhaps now the acronym YCDBSOYA should be changed to :

You Can Do Business Sitting on Your Ass ?

On the other hand there use to be an United Airlines commercial used to confront the prevailing use of the telephone for business relationships. The commercial began with a sales meeting where the CFO stated that the company had lost a major account and that it was time to better know their customers. At this point he handed out ailrine tickets to the sales force and said it's time to get to know our customers again. So perhaps the lesson is that YCDBSOYA is appropriate even when we can communicate via email, im, chat and telephone. There may never be anything to replace face to face communication.
