Does anyone have any defense they can lend us?

I don't even know where to begin. I thought our defense was supposed to be the strongest part of our team. We have the same 11 starters as we had last year, yet we are playing like a bunch of rookies. Babineaux was especially horrible yesterday. I never once saw him look back at the ball during the entire game. There were several plays where he was in the right position to make the play on the ball, but NEVER looked back to see where the ball was.

We allowed 523 yards, over 300 of those in the first half alone. We allowed them to score on EVERY drive in the 1st half and didn't force a punt until the eight minute mark of the 3rd quarter. They averaged 7.1 yards per rush. These are ridiculous statistics.

Now lets look at our offense, or lack there of. Hasselbeck went 11-21 for 105 yards, no touchdows and one interception before he was benched early in the fourth quarter. That had to be one of the worst games of his career. McMullen was running lazy, sloppy routes. Colbert was dropping every pass that came his direction, even Branch dropped a couple of crucial passes before he left the game with a foot injury. Bobby Engram appeared to be the only reciever on the field giving everything he had.

The only other bright spot was Julius Jones. I love watching that guy run the ball. His legs just never stop going. While his stats weren't very impressive (17 carries, 61 yds, 3.6 yds/carry), he never stopped pushing for more yards. There were several plays where he was hit at or before the line of scrimmage and he managed to push through and end up with 3 or 4 yards. That's just so refreshing to see in our running game.

They say that it is darkest before the dawn. Right now, I can't even see my hand in front of my face. I don't know all of the details of what's going on behind the scenes. None of us do. I can only hope that Mike Holmgren is ripping these guys a new one in that locker room and I hope that he is going to make them hurt during practice this week. It looked to me like we were beaten before we ever took the field. We played like we expected to lose. Granted the Giants are a good team, but we made them all look like hall of famers. It was a disgusting display out on that field yesterday. I don't ever want to see that again and if I were the coaches and players I would be utterly embarressed by our performance.

The good news is, it's too late... yet. It's getting close though. If anything can come out of that game yesterday, I hope it's a wake up call. These guys are far better than they played yesterday, and now it's time to prove it. I, for one, do not want to see the Holmgren era end in a fizzle. Wake up Hawks! Get your ass in gear and go play some football.
