This person or people are the bridge between the artist and the record label in ways of artistic development. A&R may also handle contracts, negotiations, outside hired song writers and outside hired music producers. A&R's typically do not listen to demo tapes unless the are solicited. This means that unless you have a music attorney, they ask, or you contact them and they accept to listen to the demo. However, record labels outside the us and and independent record labels will listen and accept an unsolicited demo. An artist must check the record label to see if unsolicited demos are accepted as the artist may lose reputation for blindly sending out demos or emails.
