What is Bladeless LASIK?
60Introducing All Laser Vision Correction
ALL-Laser Vision Correction (Bladeless LASIK Surgery) offers potentially better vision than is possible with glasses or contact lenses for people with astigmatism through greater accuracy using this procedure.
There are two different options when preparing the eye prior to the laser procedure. The most well known way, commonly known as LASIK, uses a mechanical device with a blade attached to create the flap in the cornea. The flap is the moved to the side, and the laser treatment is performed.
The second option, All-Laser Vision Correction, uses a laser to remove the outermost, thin layer of the cornea. All-Laser Correction does not create the flap used in traditional LASIK surgery. Once the thin layer of the cornea is removed with the laser, the treatment is delivered, typically in less than one minute. All-Laser Vision Correction has been proven to be 25 times more accurate than the mechanical blade used in LASIK surgery.
This difference is important in terms of patient outcomes. Whilst rare, the fact that the LASIK flap is created mechanically can lead to complications. The risk of the flap created during traditional LASIK surgery slipping or becoming compromised through eye trauma does not exist for patients who have undertaken All-Laser Vision Correction.
All-Laser Vision Correction is the choice of people with, or seeking careers in the armed forces or emergency services. The natural layer of protective tissue rapidly regenerates within a few days, leaving the cornea clear, corrected, and completely intact.
