What is Going on at Hubpages?

hubpages

Once hub on a time

There was a place that you could go, To escape from reality, Where people cared about each other and helped each other out

We were a family back then, quick to aid a fellow writer

or a newbie with their questions, as a community we grew together

Learned together, Friends till the end

Then came the forums, and war broke out, advice was still given

but with a sarcastic edge big mistake

Money drives the community now, everyone competing for the few ad dollars

and fighting over silly little things.

What is happening to us?

Bitching and backstabbing, flagging and down rating.

Just because another hubbers story may earn five cents more when an ad is clicked on than ours

Hubpages is a community site We are supposed to share, We are supposed to help,We are supposed to encourage, We are supposed to teach as we learn, We are supposed to help Hubpages grow,

Which would benefit everyone in the community.

The hub of any community is supposed to be the heart of the community

But this community seems to be losing its heart.

If I was a newbie hubber and I paid a visit to the forums

It would put me off the site completely I would leave and go elsewhere

Squidoo for instance.

Forget the petty fights and the arguing lets work together, help each other and get what we all want. A hubpages site that we can all be proud of.

My two cents.........jimmy

you have my two cents as well, jimmy so that's 4 cents between us.  still not enough for a cup of coffee.  :(

yes, we were here and watched it grow and since I left and came back, I have no idea what happened between then and now but I walked right into it.

I checked out the new forums and I think if you back up and look I said right then and there it was a bad idea.

put me in as anti-forum.  nothing good can come out of them, only opportunity for power plays and ganging up and false accusations, gang-stalking and total crap.  yeah it would be cool if we could discuss religion or pol or something, but I know what happens when a clique controls a board, from other boards and there is nowhere to go but down.

what kind of person cares if someone makes 3 cents here or a nickel there?  I've never cared enough to even bother about the money - this is socializing for me, not a competitive profit enterprise.

now I'm being told by other hubbers every single hub I make has to be college essay standard and I can absolutely guarantee you the people saying this do not produce hubs that meet that standard.  I, at least, know what that standard is and did that, for my degree.

This is not a college class nor is it a business venture for me.  I like news, I like to discuss it and of all the freaking people on here to accuse of having non-original content, I bet 50 plus of my hubs are original unpoetry, some more are strange fads, some are news, some are neat site finds with personal input.  One would think I wouild be the last person here to be accused of non-original content.

how many flipping catholic socialists are there on this board who are also unpoets?

Don't know why Charlotte apologises. She's the one who started that TPAM thing where nice hubbers say nice things about each other. Where we can go when we are feeling blue, and say sweet things and get flattered in return. Good show, that.

I agree with you, Jimmy on fights.
I don't mind disagreements; nice people can disagree.
Maybe sarcasm can be reduced. And downright fights.

Thank you.

Yes, I love the TPAM thread and a good debate but not an argument. Kenny is right 'nice people can disagree' and can learn something from each other.

There are so many nice people on Hub Pages and I've had some fun and stimulating conversations of late in the forums. So I like the forums just not arguments or personal attacks.

I am fairly new but so far my experience has been good. ALthough, I am not doing this to make money on the ads so I am still not sure the total benefit of that. But so far I have gotten alot of information and have read many interesting pieces. But thanks for the warning.

We get paid!!! Hmm Like that was a reason for me to create! I thought creating was for creations sake not to make 3 cents per click. That is petty politicing and I prefer to leave that to the politicians. Forums are useless when you have hubpages to create, who needs them. I hate petty little minds and "Cliques" I never liked forums for the reasons listed above all of the input usually turn out to be petty childish bickering. Lets just stay with creating quality Creations (Not university or college thesis Material.) Stay friends and ignore the rest!

The four or more cents put forth here make good sense no pun intended

jimmy,

I am with 110%. I think in my humble enthusiasm, I may have joined some of the forums. I have never visited one yet, so I have no experience of what you are talking about. Many years ago I was making prolific comments on a forum, and guess what, people started to complain about other people. I could not be bothered reading most of the rubbish, so I dropped off or out. There was more to my life and complaining about some one bad writiing or talking skills.

As far as making 3 cents I have not bothered with that as yet. I have not joined any one for the money. It seems to be very hard way to make some money.

So there is my three cents all for you.

Great hub.

Thank you

Great hub

You're on the right track Jimmy. I'm not sure the flagging (or fragging) concept is a constructive feature. It seems to be stirring up quite an uproar, and I'm not sure to what purpose. For the most part I just ignore the Hubs I don't like unless I find them offensive, and then I may vote with a thumbs down and post a comment. I don't think I've ever flagged anyone's hub.

As all families have their trouble, their ups and downs. We here at Hubpages have just had our downs in the forums.....Lets hug....kiss and go to our UP from here.

I've only been here for 4 months, I have read and learned so much. I love Hubpages, it's the first time in many years that I feel enriched and actually proud to belong. The idea of having this type of site, where writers and want to be's can actually display and share, is just amazing.

Come on people HUBBERS, lets appreciate what we have here, thanks to the Hub-team. Lets not screw around with perfection.....

Flinging petty garbage at each other, about each other will just leave all of us with bad taste and stinky breath.....(I'm broke so I don't have any extra pennies to give, so you'll just have to take my rantings for free)

Deepest regards to you all, hubbers

Zsuzsy (thanks Jimmy for such an important hub)

Its a sad fact about people.

Ther's always something to fall out about. I'm not sure that complaining about complainers is the right way of dealing with it...

What about "Do to others as you would have them do to you"?

It is the same in almost any forum. Usually 2 or 3 members become self-appointed leaders. Their fear of being knocked off the top translates into mud slinging. Instead of welcoming new members with open arms and guiding them along with the hope of gaining strength in numbers they degrade, ridicule and berate in an attempt to look superior.

It is lonely at the top as they will find out when others stop visiting the forums. As a relative newbie to HubPages(3 weeks) I have visited the forums and witnessed the not-so-nice behaviour of the few so-called leaders and I have to say the forum is the LAST place I would go to for help if I needed it as a result.

I love HubPages and am enjoying my time here. I am learning many things from reading some great Hubs and I have been getting satisfaction from creating my own Hubs. As for forums..I avoid them like the plague.

Thankyou for all of your comments, I hope that things will become a little more amicable in the future in the forums, and to think I asked for a chat room to be added at one point lol, how bad would it be then?.

I have decided that i will still use the forums but only to answer questions related to hubpages that will help new hubbers find their way around the site.

thanks again for your comments......jimmy

jimmy, the idea of a forum or a chat room wouldn't have been bad if you didn't grossly underestimate the lack of lives some people have. there are people who literally spend all their time trying to achieve "message board power" and to plan group attacks for the little rush.

you wouldn't think so. I mean, why? what could they possibly gain out of it? and I don't have an answer for this one. just some sick puppies with no control over their own lives is all I can guess. they derive some sense of satisfaction out of trying to have power and control on what they perceive to be vulnerable others as some kind of revenge against the world - who knows. therapy therapy therapy. I can't say it enough. attacking others isn't going to help them long run. therapy will.

the problem with the internet is that while in real life you can't usually get batches of these slugs together, online they can find each other and enable each other into considering it acceptable behavior. they form little packs and egg each other on, not unlike lynch mobs in the old south. what one slug might not do alone, they will do in packs with their loyal buddies.

the nice thing about hubs was the protection from all this. there was no "hubber power" or "hubber clout". there was just different people putting up hubs, and you either read them or not, outsiders read them or not and it forestalled all kinds of problems. there was no place other than private emails or IMs for people to "plot group attacks" nor anywhere for them to carry them out.

the forums and chat are horrendous ideas and completely destroy the safety of this place which was one of it's virtues.

Jimmy, you truly are a treasured member of the community. I think a lot of the tension we've seen lately has to do with simple misunderstandings. I've tried to clear the air about flagging here:

Jimmy, I have not been here long but have admired your caring and understanding nature. When I first found Hub Pages I was so happy. I have wrote in my journals and they never gave me the peace that I got here.Sometimes I am not sure if one thing is okay and what hub pages is about.People have voiced their opinions and what I have wrote,I have wrote from the heart and I was getting so excited everyday until one person made me feel what i wrote was not acceptable. Please advice as I do value your opinion.I have not wrote anything in awhile and have started internalizing everything.I love to write and it opens a door way to another world.Thank you for all you do!

Jimmy, although you are no longer my fan, I do read you stuff still. I agree with you on this, and rarely post in the forums after the J incident, to whom I apologized for ever commenting on in the first place. I have gone elsewhere, although I do come by at least daily here to check in on my hubs...I am very turned off by the forums....I rarely get answers to my questions, and Paul Deeds and Misah seem to be the only constant that answr for me....anyways, I agree and stopped all that babbling some time ago...when I see an arguement start, I walk on by as I don't want to get involved....if that is what it takes for me to "belong" then I don't want any part anymore.
