Ketosis is when your body burns fat or muscle tissue for its energy. Remember that the body burns three things—protein, fat and carbohydrates. If your body is burning on protein or fat for its energy, it produces a by product known as ketones. When your body produces ketones, you are thereby in a state called ketosis. When your body is burning carbohydrates for its energy, it does not produce ketones. When the body is burning fat for its energy, it does produce ketones. Therefore, if you are burning fat, you are in a state of ketosis. If you are eliminating the carbohydrates to such a degree that you are on an unhealthy diet and your body has flipped over and started burning its’

Muscle tissue for energy, it produces mass quantities of ketones. This deep stage of ketosis is highly dangerous. When you burn muscle tissue, not only do you develop flab, you can become sick. It is not uncommon for hair to fall out, the heart become damaged, and kidneys weakened. Even the liver can be adversely effected.
