Ketosis is when your body burns fat or muscle tissue for its energy. Remember that the body burns three things—protein, fat and carbohydrates. If your body is burning on protein or fat for its energy, it produces a by product known as ketones. When your body produces ketones, you are thereby in a state called ketosis.
