What is it?

Premium text messaging is simply the text messages you receive from entities that you do not know or that you may not realize you know!

Another words it's TEXT SPAM!

This is how it happens

Do you remember filling out any webforms that asked for your cell phone number? When giving them your cell phone number you gave implied consent to send you text messages from their company, sometimes several times a day!

If you do not have a text messaging package added to your cell phone then this can result in some additional charges that you may not want.

Do your teens search the Internet for songs, ringtones, games, or wallpaper? In order to get the free ringtones that are advertised to them on TV and popup internet ads they are required to sign up for a monthly subscription to the company. These subscriptions range from $9.99 to $19.99 per month! That can add up to a hefty bill if your teen downloads alot!

Most of these company's do explain these terms and conditions, however in very small print and most of the time very hard to read font tucked away somewhere within their website.

Do you use your cell phone to vote for reality TV contests or game shows? You may be charged 99 cents and up per call you make! It can add up fast!

What you can do to Stop it!

In order to disarm all this overcharging for spam that you receive you will need to call your cell phone company and request for premium text messaging to be blocked. Some companies will resist due to contracts with several of the companies who are spamming you! But escalate your call to a manager in order to have it done. Click on this hub to find out how to escalate the call.

They may tell you it cannot be done, but do not take no for an answer, it can be done, you just have to find the right person to do it for you!

With some cell phone carriers you may need to speak with technical support to get this done.

Some cell phone companies may even give you a credit if you were not aware of the terms and conditions of the spamming company. They may give you credit once or twice, but do not look for them to do it each month. They notate your account each time you call in as to why your calling. If they see you are calling in each month they will stop giving you credit and flag your account. it is best just to have the premium text messaging blocked completely!

A few parting words...

When you receive a text message from someone you do not know, do not delete it until you have investigated. Deleting it will not stop the spamming company from charging you. Even if you never opened the message and just delete it, they may still charge you!

Lastly pay attention to your phone bill and check for any charges that you are not familiar with and do not be afraid to ask for an explanation of them
