What is Sustainabilty
What is Sustainabilty
The definition is a steady state environment, culture, society, industrial mode
It is a way of living
Why
Well why should we all worry about whether the planet can sustain the population or not
Well surf over to the US Census Website, and there on the front page is the answer
The World Population Clock. Counting up how many people it is projected based on birth and death rates there are in the world
The World Population Clock also shows the US Population.
Here is the value at the time this Hub was being worked on
U.S. 307,490,447
World 6,785,204,456

A whole lot of people, all eating, drinking, excreting, creating refuse and waste.
Now from the World Population Clock page comes the projected 1 year additions
(copied from that page to illustrate this point, data is copyright US Census)
Monthly World population figures:
07/01/09 6,768,167,712 08/01/09 6,774,705,647 09/01/09 6,781,243,583 10/01/09 6,787,570,618 11/01/09 6,794,108,554 12/01/09 6,800,435,588 01/01/10 6,806,973,524 02/01/10 6,813,511,460 03/01/10 6,819,416,692 04/01/10 6,825,954,628 05/01/10 6,832,281,663 06/01/10 6,838,819,599 07/01/10 6,845,146,634
So before July of 2010 an almost 1 Billion increase, which is equal to 1/3rd of the entire US Population. So essentially if they were all in the US, it would add one 130% of the US Population. A tough drain on our national economy, which is still in the end of the worst recession in decades is about the most robust, even with the crushing debt.
So, if we work to live in a manner that will sustain us right now, we still have to account for 1/3rd of a person more in our own personal lives just in the next year. So for every 3 people IN THE WORLD, not just the United States, we must account for a 4th person within a year.
