What is The Purpose of This Life
55The Big Question!
Through out all earth time, man has asked the questions "What is the purpose of life?" and "What happens after death?"
Life is precious. The most precious. For life not to have a purpose and to not live after this life would be a total waste. I know too many great people, not to believe this life most carry on.
To understand the purpose of lifes, it helps to look at the life of Jesus Christ.
Before This Life
To know the purpose of this life, one must look at life before we existed on earth, same a Jesus existed before he was born on earth.
God, being perfect, perfect in justness, perfect happiness, perfect love, and benevolent, wished to share this. He wanted others to be like him, and share in the perfect joy he has. Doesn't scriptures, and especially Jesus Christ life show us of his love and desires for us. Therefore, he being God and full of love, created us as spirits in what we can call a spirit world which is our pre-existance.
Song: I LIved In Heaven
I lived in heaven a long time ago it is true
Lived there and loved there with people I know so did you
Then Heavenly Father created a beautiful plan
All about earth and eternal salvation for man.
Father said He needed someone who had enough love
To give His life so we all could return there above
There was another who sought for the honor divine
Jesus said Father send me and the glory be thine.
Jesus was chosen and as the Messiah He came
Conquering evil and death through His glorious name
Giving us hope of a wonderful life yet to be
Home in that heaven where Father is waiting for me.
There in the pre-existance, we were with God as spirits, but not as
God himself. We needed to take other steps to be come more like him. The
plan was presented that we would be born on this earth, where we would
no longer remember our pre-existance state. A plan where we would not
know of Him for certain, but where we would have to develop
faith in Him. A plan where we would be tested if we would do righteous acts,
or choice wrong acts. This was essential to know because if we would
become more like him, we would have to be proven to do righteous acts, since we be blessed with the power and authority that He would
give us as we become more like him. Without this test we would not be
able to become more like him. Righteousness is essential to use the gifts that he would be giving us.
Also, we needed to obtain a body to become like him, even as Jesus Christ obtained a body.
This Life
So as mentioned in the previous section, we had to be tried. We all would fall short and sin. The plan also provided a Savior. One who would be a mediator between us and our Father, God. As a Savior he would control mercy and justice. Christ was foreordained before the foundation of the world to be the Savior.
I Am A Child of God, Sung by The Osmonds
I Am Trying To Be Like Jesus
The mediator, roll is best described in the story of a man, who had borrowed money, but was not able to repay it. The debtor demanded justice that he get his money or the man be thrown inro jail. The man asks, where is the mercy. He did not deserve to be thrown into jail. With this, a friend of the debtee steps in and says, I will pay your debt for you, but you will be in debt to me. Therefore both justice and mercy will served. The debtor gets his money and the debtee avoids jail. But with this, the debtee would need to serve or pay his friend back according to the contract between them.
Therefore the Savior
steps in as the mediator. He pays the debt of sin off through his
sacrifice. He also over comes death, so that everyone came become live
again. In returns he asks that we follow him. As you are baptized, you create a covenant (or contract) with Jesus that you will follow him, and take his name upon you.
So as we develop faith and following the Savior, our sins are paid for. Those who do not faithful and do not as the Savior asks, would not have their sins forgiven.
What Happens When We Die?
At death our spirits and our bodies are separated. We go to the spirit world, which is sometime known as paradise and spirit prison.
In the spirit world we are in waiting and preparing for our resurrection. We continuely being tested and are faith is growing. Those who had lived on the earth and did not have a chance to hear the gospel of Jesus Christ, and be able to develop faith, will be able to hear and learn the gospel of Jesus Christ during this time. Some spirits are known to be in prison, because are not yet able to progress further due to no fault of their own, that they did not learn HIs gospel on earth. Therefore as they recieve and learn of HIs gospel, they will become to a state more known as paradise, where they are living His laws and are awaiting the resurrection. Also, they mayremain in spirit prision if they rejected HIs gospel, once they learned of it.
Resurrection
One of the final states to become more like God, is the resurrection. Everyone who have lived on the earth would be reunited with their bodies, never to be separated again.
At the Resurrection, everyone will be resurrected to a glory based on their faith. Be it to the glory of the sun, or of the moon, or of the stars. We are all sons and daughter of God. As a calf grows into cattle, as a lamb grows to be a sheep. We as sons and daughter of God can grow to like him. Many are called but few are choosen. Many will fall short of becoming totally like God, but they will still be eternally happy.
We, through their faith and righteousness are able to become like God, will also have the desire to share this joy. We will be able to create spirits, send them to an earth and share this all with them, so that they may be come like him, too.
My Testimony
I would like to let everyone know that through study and prayer, I know everyone's life has purpose. That we are children of our Heavenly Father. That as we work as strife to be more like our Savior Jesus Christ, we may become more like HIm and recieve our Heavenly Father's blessings. He loves and wants the best for us. This life on earth is only a blink of an eye in the realm of the eternities. Some may be suffering at this moment of time, but their blessings and joy in the eternities will be added to them and they will be greatly blessed. May we all strife to be like Jesus and learn his way. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
