What is Video Commerce?

Video What?

Recently, I created a number of Hubs about Affiliate Marketing that have been well received. But, one in particular has garnered a lot of interest... and a lot of questions, so I've decided to revisit the idea of video and more specifically, Video Commerce.

OK. Video Commerce. It's not a buzz word yet, but mark *my* words it will be. As more and more people come to realize the power of video on the web, it's only natural that those same people will be looking for ways to make money from it and that's what Video Commerce is all about.... leveraging the power of video to convert sales.

Benefits of Video

It really shouldn't come as much of a suprise that video can be *incredibly* beneficial.

Short of "smell-a-vision," video is the best way to let your potential customers really get a good feel for your product. They can see color, size and fit. It's even possible to get an idea of weight!

iPhone Meet Blender

Seeing Is Trying It For Yourself?

More and more internet users are watching videos online and as they say, seeing is believing. Now you can say seeing is believing is trying it for yourself.

The guys at Blendtec made millions of viewers believe in the strength of their blenders by mashing up all kinds of unlikely things. And, not only did they show their product in action, they got people to participate by suggesting things to blend. (And spawned more than a few knock-offs)

More recently, millions of people have become convinced that their cell phones can pop popcorn for no other reason than they saw a video of it. And, once again, videos duplicating the experiment are popping (no pun intended) up all over the place.

Pop Popcorn With Your Cell Phone

The Next Logical Step

So, if people are watching videos, sharing them with friends and even more amazing, mimicking what they see, wouldn't it make sense that if they see a product they like, they'll go buy it?

Again, seeing is believing... just ask the guys at Blendtec. They went from being an obscure blender company to probably one of the most recognizable brands... in about a year.

So, how do *you* use video to sell your wares?

THE Video Commerce Platform

Right now, there's a company (that I've written about many times before) that's leading the charge into this new realm of Video Commerce.

Qoof has created a widget that plays videos, offers product information, provides photographs and gives product reviews. But perhaps the most impressive feature is its "Buy-it-Now" button.

The Buy-it-Now button has in essence *created* the idea of Video Commerce. Now, like never before, a potential customer can go from watching a video about say, a Dell computer, to actually buying it with the click of a button. Yes, with the click of *one* button.

Talk about sale conversion potential. Amazing.

Qoof Partners

The Qoof widget is perfect for affiliate marketers (another one of my favorite topics.)

CJ, Linkshare and Performics affiliates can grab the widget from the Qoof website, enbed their affiliate code, place it on their sites and start making money.

Companies that currently offer widgets include Drugstore.com, Ice.com, MyWeddingFavors.com, Net10 Wireless, Cornerstork, Canvas on Demand and Dell Computers.

While the widgets are only available through the affiliate networks mentioned above, more features and functionality are expected to be rolled out within the year.

twohandtouch,

Such great information about video commerce! I guess with all the upgrades in technology...one must remain current to compete in affiliate marketing. I totally think that you are so right, this is the wave of the future! I am still laughing about the popcorn! Do you think it really worked? I had my kids watch it, and now we are all wondering how that is going to effect our brains! lol

LOL - I have seen the "Will it Blend" videos before, but that Popcorn one is new, and kind of scary. This is your brain. This is your brain on a cell phone. I agree with In the Doghouse - super information on video commerce!

Hey all... thanks for the kind words... I'm glad I could share. This stuff really is cool and the potential is limitless...

Doghouse and Steph... I lean towards the popcorn thing being a fake... or that might just be wishful thinking!

Robie.... I agree that the technology is pretty amazing. I just hope that the next version of the Qoof widget has a more intuitive user interface. I find that a lot of stuff is hidden within the menus and the average user isn't going to find 'em. Once it's a little friendlier I think conversions will skyrocket.

Amy... glad you found it useful. If you have any questions at all, lemme know! We are *all* new to something!

Hey, is that popcorn video yours? It turned private so I can't watch it. Nice hub though.
