Digital cameras are great! They contain a computer chip that uses ones and zeros (digits) to create the image. I urge you to get a digital camera. Even though we've never met I am certain you will be pleased with your new purchase.

A digital camera does not use film. It records light in a digital format. There is more than one format to record your image with jpg or JPEG being the most common format. Some cameras use jpg as the only image recording format.

Imagine, no more film to buy. No more wondering if you got the right type of film. No more processing costs. No more disappointment as you see the pictures didn't turn out as you had hoped and the event won't happen again.

You may have noticed that there are many types and brands of digital cameras available to you. Some of them are almost identical. Some do much more than a "point and shoot" camera. Some cameras will work like a "point and shoot" then allow you to take pictures in light that would be beyond the ability of a "point and shoot."

You can make prints in many sizes (even of the same image), you can create slide shows, you can share your pictures with friends using the internet. You can create albums and gifts. You can add your pictures to a digital picture frame and have the pictures change under your control. You can delete a picture if you don't like it and take another at no cost to you.

A digital camera has many other advantages over a film camera. It can take many more pictures. It can work in low light and in bright light. It can fix "red eye" where the subject's eyes look like red dots in a film picture.

One of the best features is that you can see immediately if the picture is a "keeper" or if you need to take another picture. Sometimes a person will be blinking or one of the people in the picture isn't smiling. Now you can see that immediately and take another picture.

Sometimes you try to "compose" a beautiful picture (maybe a floral composition) now you will be able to see immediately if you got it right. You can take another if you want to change the way the picture looks. You can add a border, add words, or add the date and time the picture was taken. You never had the convenience and creativity with film that you have with digital.

You can take videos as well as still pictures with some models. You will need only one camera to give you the ability to create great pictures.
