What is a Flat Monitor?
55Computer monitors are devices used for presenting demonstrative visual information either acquired, stored or in any other form of transmission. Flat monitors are just like those of normal monitors depending on their types.
Here are some types of flat monitors and their features.
· The LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) Flat Monitors. This monitor has two glass plates and has a liquid crystal between the plates. When light ray passes through the first glass, plate then the only specific light waves are allow to pass through the second glass plate. The second glass plate projects the precise image that you see. LCD monitors can only recognize digital signal data. Active matrix technology and passive matrix technology are developed on the glass plate’s micro transistors that are arrange vertically and horizontally. The LCD monitor polarizes light into viewable images. This monitor’s resolution depends on the screen’s size. A 17 inch screen is capable of 1024 x 768 resolutions. 1289 x 1024 resolutions on a 19 inch screen and a 20 inch screen is capable of 1600 x 1200 resolutions.
· The CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) Flat Monitors. Aperture grill (tension mask) is a technology used by CRT. The aperture grill is the upright micro diameter wires across the screen where electron beam passes and illuminate the phosphor coated glass plate. Another is the shadow mask technology which triangularly arranges the green, red and blue dots as micro-holes in a metal plate inside the glass. This is available in many sizes from 6 inches to as big as 36 inches. It gives out negatively-charged electro beam through the electromagnetic field on the screen. CRT monitor is capable for SVGA (Super Video graphics Array) which is 800x 600 resolutions to XGA (Extended Graphics Array) of 1024 x 768 and 1280 x 1024 SXGA (Super Extended Graphics Array). Some models even have 1600 x 1200 UXGA (Ultra Extended Graphics Array) and QXGA (Quad Extended Graphics Array) of 2048 x 1536 resolutions. The area proportion for CRT monitor viewing is 4 is to 3 and the screen measurement is from edge to edge crossways.
· The PDP (Plasma Display Panels) flat monitors. Emitted lights by ionized gas is use to display image on PDP flat monitors. Two sets of electrodes are positioned on a grid and being charge to ionized gas. This releases ultraviolet photons that run to the phosphor coated cell walls and releases light photons as image on the screen. This type of flat monitor is quite expensive compare with LDC and CRT flat monitors but the quality is almost the same. Like the LCD flat monitor, PDP monitors only recognize digital signal data.
