What is a Raw Food Diet?

Have you heard about the Raw Food Diet? In case you haven't heard of it,
it is the latest diet to gain popularity. The raw food diet has quickly
garnered a great deal of well-deserved attention. When most people think
about diets, they imagine short-term eating regiments employed to help
them lose weight quickly. This diet isn't meant to help you lose weight
short term before going back slowly to your regular diet, albeit with
smaller portions and more self-control; it is designed and intended to be
a diet, or eating plan, for long-term use that will, done correctly, lead
to a better, healthier life. Losing weight and feeling great are the bonuses
with the diet. This diet, because you're eating raw, living foods, automatically
steers you away from the standard American diet, which includes a fair amount
of processed foods, and steers you toward a cleaner, healthier, fresher diet.

Following a raw food diet means consuming food in its natural, unprocessed state,
no cooking of any kind as processing and cooking food removes most of the basic
nutritional value. Conventional wisdom has told you that if you cook pasta just
to the medium stage, it will have more calories. While this is true, along with
those additional calories, it will have more of its nutritional value in it than if you
cooked it until it was well done. Another example references peeling vegetables :
you've probably heard that you shouldn't peel carrots or potatoes to deeply as
most of the nutrients are just under the surface.

The raw food diet means eating unprocessed, uncooked, organic, whole foods, such as, fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, legumes, dried fruits and seaweeds. It means consuming a diet that is at least 75% uncooked. Cooking removes flavor and nutrition from vegetables and fruits. This diet also means eating the way our ancient ancestors did. Our healthier, more fit ancestors. They cooked very little, and certainly didn't cook or process fruits and vegetables. On the contrary, they ate them raw. They drank natural, spring water and maybe even coconut milk, on occasion.

Once you have a better understanding of the fundamentals of this diet, does not it just make sense that this is how our bodies were meant to eat? It is a way of eating that harmonizes our bodies with our own metabolism. Our bodies require essential nutrients, enzymes and vitamins in order to work efficiently. A raw food diet is designed to provide what your body needs.
