To find a quality Aquarium the first thing to do is look into the quality of its glass. This is the main characteristic you have to look on to know what is a good Aquarium. Your Aquaria will need a glass of high quality and sufficient thickness. This last Aquarium detail will be different with different water depths. There are aquarium trade guidelines that say aquariums designed with a water depth bigger than 44cm/17" should be constructed of at least 6mm thick glass.

Aquariums greater than 90cm/36" in length should have at least 6mm glass if it exceeds 38cm/15" in height and of 10mm glass if water depth exceeds 45cm/18" depth.

Silicone joints need to be neat and tidy. Edges and joins should not have any damages.

If you want to use bracing bars on your aquarium you need to check how this will affect it.

If using an older-style "wooden" hood or canopy, does the aquarium have a condensation cover and does this fit well while still allowing easy access to the water?

To find a good aquarium and choose the correct specification you need to look into:

  • Size

  • Styles

  • Hoods and canopies

  • Cabinets

  • Backdrops

We will leave these details for a next article about What is a good aquarium!
