What is high risk pregancy? What are some reasons for it?
66Why I am high risk
I can only speak from my experience. I don't know many women who are in my situation, so this may not be helpful to you. But, I hope you can at least find something that will be helpful to you in this. I am a high-risk patient because of my health problems. I was perfectly healthy, with the exception of cysts on my ovaries and endometreosis. I went into the hospital for an out-patient surgery because of those things being wrong because I wanted to get pregnant and was having problems doing so. During the surgery, my doctor hurt me by cutting my Vena Cava an inch and a half and I bled to death on the table. This resulted in a 2 foot blood clot. It has grown 4 times since it developed. I am on high dosages of Coumadin (Warfarin). For a woman to get pregnant on blood thinners, she has to stop the blood thinner by mouth and take shots daily in the stomach because the medication by mouth will hurt the baby, possibly kill it. Blood thinners by mouth often cause miscarriage and the mother could bleed to death. Mothers in this position have to be monitored very closely and at some point during the pregancy most have to go into the hospital for a good part of their pregancy. Blood thinners cause brain damage to babies if they can be carried until a safe time for delivery. This puts the mother and baby both at risk. I was on bedrest for a long time at home then I was in the hospital a long time. But is was so worth it! I will be on blood thinner for whatever is the remainder of my life. There are alot of reasons for women to be at high risk. Blood pressure, problems with their sugar, baby not positioned correctly, birth defects, so many things that we never think of unless we've gone through it or know someone who has. I think the most important thing is to find a high-rick doctor that sees alot of patients and has a great reputation and let him or her evaluate how high the risks are. PLEASE PLEASE check out your doctor before you use him or her. I didn't. I trusted blindly. It was a huge mistake on my part. A well-established doctor should be easy to check out to make sure you have the best of care possible. I found one but he is over 2 hours away from me, but worth the drive to have a doctor that is good at what he does. I don't want any woman to be able to type something like this from expericnce like I am. I know that I am in the minority with why I am high risk, but I hope somehow this has answered your question. I will be glad to answer any that I can to help you. Just PLEASE check out your doctor. That is all I ask.

Thanks so much for the encouraging words. I can't stress enough to anyone, men and women to check out their doctors. I'm proof of what you said. There are too many out there not qualified to be practicing. Our society thinks if they are 'Dr. Whoever' then they are a brilliant doctor. Not true! Again, thanks so much! :) And YES it was WELL worth it! He'll be 12 in November.
Wow this was amazing, it seems that I could learn alot from you, as I am embarking on the rode to becoming pregnant again and have PCOS, you said you have had cyst on your ovaries do you have this as well? Please stop by my hub and check it out! We may have a little/lot in common
That's amazing. I was high risk. But for very different reasons. I got pregnant with the help of an infertility clinic, and that puts you at high risk. I also had 3 prior miscarriages, and that put me into high risk. Then, at 8 weeks, I developed serious swelling. You couldn't tell my ankles from my knees. At 28 weeks I got high blood pressure, then migraines. All the signs of preeclampsia, which is what put me in high risk. In the end, I was put on bed rest so the baby wouldn't come too early. I got sent in to be induced at 37 weeks, labored for 28 hours then had a c-section. My child is so worth it :)
Nice hubs!
JusRobin, All the doctor told me was that I have Endo and cystson both ovaries. I didn't ovulate like I should have either. The surgery was to correct that, but since I was hurt at the beginning of the surgery, they were not able to fix those problems. I am going to read more about what you are going through. If I can help you any, please don't hesistate to ask.
nwunderlich, I'm so sorry for your loss. But looking at that precious baby in your lap tells me what a glorious gift you have been given. I had a friend who went through the same thing as you. We we so scared, thankfully, she and the baby are ok. She had to have a section also. She is stopping at one baby since she had to go through so much to get him here. Her health is still suffering because of it. I feel for you.
I feel like I have alot in common with each of you and would love to talk to either of you if I can help in any way. Thank you both for reading my hub. Babies are gifts directly from God and I'm so thankful for what we have been given. It's so great to meet women like you on here. Please feel free to contact me at anytime. Y'all have a great night! :)

Wow, what an amazing story, but the blessing of a child is so worth it isn't it?!?! It is so hard in today's world we were taught to trust Doctors blindly, but a Dr. friend of mine said something that has always stuck with me. "What do you call someone who graduated last in their class at medical school?... Doctor." You are so right, make sure to check out your doctor, ask LOTS of questions and if they make you feel like you are asking too many stop then and switch. They should NEVER make you feel like you are asking too much and too many are practicing without insurance and some without liscesnes. Yes this is illegal but they do it and we are the ones who suffer. God bless!
