What is it with Bacteria...?
We all know that life is getting faster and faster and that as a result of this there are a whole load of super stressed people out there. A couple of the areas in our bodies that are immediately affected by stress are our digestive system and the immune system. Too many people don't take the time to eat well, to enjoy and savor good wholesome foods, it is just so much easier to open a packet and heat something up with a microwave, or to stop in at the nearest fast food chain for a greasy burger and fries.
I read somewhere recently that the consumption of antacids in the "culturally evolved" west has tripled in the last year alone, so first we abuse ourselves then we make a wild dash for the antacids. Medications of any kind are over used these days, another one that springs to mind is antibiotics, this is one which though it is effective at killing germs and disease also kills of the good bacteria, also known as gut flora which is essential to good health.. Now I am certainly not saying that once in a while when really necessary one shouldn't turn to chemical medicines, just that as like this old saying goes "prevention is better than cure". Wouldn't it be better if we really boost our immune systems so we don't get ill all the time? Let's start with a good tea that contains a combination of herbs which gently aid the body in the removal of mucoid plaque, this is a substance which forms in the intestines, and could inhibit the absorption of important vitamins, minerals and nutrients, this together with a balanced fibre rich diet and a good probiotic which is what helps good bacteria to grow and thrive we should greatly strengthen our immune systems and be less prone to catch what's going around.
The 1908 Nobel Prize Winner, Ellie Metchnikoff showed that phagocytes destroy harmful bacteria in our bodies. The study of beneficial bacteria lead the Russian microbiologist to start drinking fermented milk and yogurt. Metchnikoff experienced improved health and well-being.
Metchnikoff studied the phenomenon of an incredible amount of people in Bulgaria living to be over 100 years old. He attributed their health and longevity to a microbe in the widely eaten Bulgarian yogurt, and he named the yogurt culturing microbe after the Bulgarians - Lactobacillus Bulgaricus.
